Senso is proof that you don’t need to spend a fortune on a bubbly buffet. This award-winning Italian restaurant is all about no-nonsense good food and the brunch is a fine showcase of its offerings.
The deal is that you help yourself to appetisers, salads, fresh oysters, dessert and cheese from the buffet, and order a main course from the a la carte menu. But, after filling our plates with piles of antipasti – colourful platters of cured meats and salads – roasted pork from the carving station and a very good selection of cheese, including a giant wheel of Parmesan, the main course was surplus to requirements. However, in the name of research we did share the pasta all’Amatriciana: al dente fusilli smothered in a delicious home-style sweet onion and tomato reduction.
Brunch here is a generous four-hour affair with good quality Prosecco, attentive service and even valet parking. My one small grumble would be the lack of labels to identify items on the buffet. A tomato and mozzarella salad speaks for itself, but a terrine of unidentified golden soup calls for some enquiry.
