Making your bespoke perfume

11th February 2020 by Expat Living 3 Min Read

https://expatliving.sg/where-to-make-your-own-perfume-in-singpopre/

Fragrance can be highly subjective; a scent you like may not be another person’s cup of tea! That’s why we’re excited about Maison 21G, a bespoke perfume house dedicated to created scents. You get to choose from a range of scents and make a perfume you love – for you, a partner or friend.

The atelier was founded last September by JOHANNA MONANGE. She’s an industry expert who has amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience from her 20 years in perfumery. The Paris-based boutique’s new Singapore shophouse space on Duxton Road has been designed by French architects Thibault Etcheverry and Romain Gaillard to exude a sense of calm and inclusion.

Making a perfume

Everything can be customised here. The first step is to take a simple personality quiz on Maison 21G’s website. From these data points, you’ll be recommended combinations of scents for three different occasions. “With our algorithm, we can transform anyone into a scent designer!” says Johanna. “There are over 600 possible combinations, and endless blends to explore and play around with.”

You can choose from 33 perfume concentrates, all derived from natural, sustainable and cruelty-free sources. Each concentrate is formulated using pure natural oils from Monique Remy Laboratory (LMR) in Grasse, France.

Next, you have to dilute your selected concentrates into alcohol to create a 21 percent concentrate perfume. After crafting your unique concoction, you’ll also get to personalise your bottle by opting for a photo, design or text to be laser-printed directly on the glass, using Maison 21G’s advanced UV-printing technology.

Making your own perfume

Gorgeous gifts

Prefer shopping online? Check out Maison 21G’s snazzy site for a fab selection of products that make great presents – be it for your friends, family, other half or even yourself! If you’re not ready to commit to a full-sized bottle, get the rollon bottle ($15) to sample the scent.

Those with sensitive skin will appreciate that there are nonalcoholic versions of Maison 21G’s signature scents available in the form of solid perfumes ($35). Made with natural beeswax, shea butter and virgin almond oil, these travel-friendly fragrances are perfect to throw into any bag and take with you on the go.

Fun event ideas

Aside from welcoming walk-in guests, the boutique also holds private perfume making sessions for corporate events, bridal parties, couples and families. Prices start at $100 per person, with each guest getting the chance to design and take home one signature scent.
