It’s never too late to start anti-ageing treatments – but understanding what your skin needs at every stage of life, and which treatments work well at each, is key. DR RAM NATH, founder and lead aesthetic physician at Line Aesthetics Clinic, has been practising aesthetic medicine for over 25 years, helping patients achieve a younger, more refreshed appearance with treatments like collagen biostimulators and thread lifts. Here, he chats to us about all things anti-ageing!
What initially drew you to aesthetic medicine?
I was drawn to the way aesthetic medicine sits between science and artistry. It is not just about treating a line or replacing volume; it is about understanding facial anatomy, ageing, proportion and confidence. Over the years, my philosophy has become very clear: the best results should look refined, natural and harmonious, not obvious. That is also the approach we take at Line Aesthetics Clinic – medically guided treatments that enhance rather than change a person’s natural features.
Have you noticed a change in how people approach anti-ageing treatments?
Yes, very much. Years ago, many patients came in only when ageing changes were already quite visible. Today, patients are more educated and more preventive. They are not necessarily asking to look younger in a dramatic way. They want to look rested, healthy and well-maintained. The conversation has shifted from “anti-ageing” to ageing well.
How does our skin actually change as we age, and what do we need at different ages?
Ageing happens in layers. The skin becomes thinner, drier and less elastic. Collagen production slows, fat pads shift, and the underlying facial structure changes. In the 20s and early 30s, the focus is usually prevention, sun protection, skin quality and early collagen support. In the late 30s and 40s, we start addressing early volume loss, fine lines and mild laxity. From the 50s onwards, anti-ageing treatments often needs to be more structural, combining skin quality, lifting, contouring and collagen stimulation.
What are some popular anti-ageing treatments patients are asking for these days?
Common requests include botulinum wrinkle treatments for frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet; hyaluronic acid dermal fillers for volume loss and facial balancing; collagen biostimulators for firmness, elasticity and gradual rejuvenation; skin boosters for hydration and glow; and thread lifts for mild to moderate sagging.
These are the core non-surgical anti-ageing treatments offered at Line Aesthetics Clinic for concerns such as lower-face laxity, jawline definition, under-eye hollows, loose neck skin and age-related facial changes.
How are these treatments helpful and who are suitable? Who are not?
Botulinum treatments help soften dynamic wrinkles and may slow new lines from forming while preserving natural expression when done carefully. They are suitable for patients with expression lines, but not ideal for those who are pregnant, breastfeeding or medically unsuitable.
Collagen biostimulators stimulate the skin’s own collagen, improving firmness, elasticity, texture and volume gradually. They are useful for patients noticing early to moderate laxity or collagen loss, and can also be preventive. They’re not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Thread lifts can help patients with mild to moderate sagging who want lift without surgery, especially around the cheeks, jawline, brows and neck. Ideal candidates are generally in their late 30s to early 50s, in good health, with realistic expectations.
What are some common misconceptions about anti-ageing?
The biggest misconception is that aesthetic treatment means looking “done”. In reality, good anti-ageing treatments should be subtle. Another misconception is that one treatment can fix everything. Ageing is not only about wrinkles; it involves skin quality, collagen, volume, laxity and facial balance. A holistic plan usually gives the most natural result.
There’s growing interest in preventive aesthetics. Is there an ideal time to start anti-ageing treatments?
There is no single perfect age. The right time is when we see early changes and can intervene gently. For many people, that may be in the early 30s, when collagen decline becomes more noticeable. Line Aesthetics’ collagen biostimulator guidance also describes the early 30s as an ideal time to start collagen-supporting treatments. The goal is not to start everything early, but to start appropriately – with good skincare, sun protection, healthy habits and small, well-planned treatments when needed.
