A near-painless, needle-free face lift with no downtime? (Plus, one you only need once a year to maintain results?) It’s no wonder Ultherapy, the FDA-approved face lifting treatment designed to combat everything from a double chin to droopy eyes, remains a hit in aesthetic clinics across the world, with over two million treatments performed since 2009. If you’re also interested in trying Ultherapy in Singapore, read on for some great insights by Dr Hoe Ying Min, medical director of Bay Aesthetics Clinic. She explains the science behind the Ultherapy treatment and why it stands tall amongst various skin tightening devices. Then, check out a review by Expat Living’s Karin Galley to see how well it works!
What exactly is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy utilises microfocused ultrasound with visualisation (MFU-V) to emit high-intensity focused ultrasonic waves, with focal areas heated up to 70 degrees Celsius, explains Dr Hoe. This stimulates new collagen production and kickstarts the skin rejuvenation process. Designed and manufactured in the US, Ultherapy has been FDA-approved since 2009 for non-invasive face lifts, skin tightening, brow and face lifting, double chin reduction and more.
Ultherapy vs HIFU vs Thermage
There’s been much debate about these three sought-after procedures. Dr Hoe tells us that while Ultherapy and HIFU share similar ultrasound technologies, Ultherapy stands out for its real-time visualisation of targeted skin tissue. This ensures more precise and customised treatments instead of blindly delivering energy to the skin. Recent studies comparing Ultherapy to HIFU devices have also shown Ultherapy to have a lower risk of complications like burns or blistering.
On the other hand, Thermage is a monopolar radiofrequency treatment. It achieves bulk heating of the skin at the 1mm to 2 mm depth, while Ultherapy can accurately target specific depths at 4.5mm, 3mm and 1.5mm. This allows Ultherapy to reach the foundational layers of the skin, resulting in more pronounced lifting and tightening effects.
Who benefits from Ultherapy in Singapore?
If you’re between 30 and 50 and dealing with a double chin, droopy eyes, or mild to moderate sagging in areas such as the face, neck and jawline, Ultherapy could be immensely helpful. One of the reasons people in Singapore love Ultherapy is its ability to deliver very natural, subtle results. Dr Hoe explains that it simply addresses loose skin for a refreshed version of yourself. It does not significantly alter your appearance, nor does it give an unnatural or fake-looking result. However, for more advanced sagging, surgical interventions might be a better fit.
Safety, discomfort and downtime
Ultherapy in Singapore has been FDA-approved since 2009 and is considered an established and safe procedure with minimal side effects. There are also over 30 published clinical studies documenting its effectiveness and safety. It is administered by trained doctors and practitioners following a thorough consultation.
It’s especially great for those who are after no-downtime and low-maintenance treatments. Only mild discomfort is expected during the treatment, which is managed with pre-medication and topical anaesthesia, and only one session a year is required for long-lasting results!
Our impression: Karin’s Ultherapy experience in Singapore
As I recently celebrated a milestone birthday, I’ve become increasingly mindful of the passage of time. Prioritising skincare has become paramount, leading me to explore rejuvenating procedures to nurture my skin.
With noticeable sagging in several areas, particularly around my jowls and droopy eyes, and a desire to address wrinkles and sun damage accumulated over the years, I turned to Ultherapy treatment in Singapore for its promising skin rejuvenation benefits. The Bay Aesthetics Clinic offered this treatment option.
Pre-procedure
Ahead of the procedure, a comprehensive consultation helped alleviate some of my apprehensions. My primary concern was discomfort, and while being informed that it would be “mildly uncomfortable” didn’t entirely ease my nerves, I remained eager to proceed.
Following the recommended oral painkillers, I entered the treatment room. A numbing cream was applied to my face and allowed to take effect for 30 minutes. Medical director Dr Hoe Ying Min explained the procedure and what sensations to expect from the ultrasound device on my skin.
The procedure
As the session started, I immediately felt a warm pulse on my skin. Surprisingly, I experienced minimal discomfort on my cheeks where the treatment began. However, bony areas such as the jawline and eyebrows induced some discomfort, though it remained tolerable, and at no point did I feel inclined to halt the procedure. Approximately halfway through, Dr Hoe Ying Min provided me with a mirror, and I could already discern a lifted appearance on the treated side of my face.
The entire procedure lasted under an hour for my entire face. Ultherapy has shown remarkable results on the neck as well. However, due to my thyroid condition, it was recommended that I omit treatment in that area.
Post-procedure
There was virtually no downtime with this Ultherapy treatment in Singapore, with only a slight flush on my face that subsided within the hour. Given its ability to stimulate natural collagen growth, results aren’t immediate, typically becoming noticeable around the three-month mark.
Having been informed of what to expect, any discomfort was easily manageable. While I await the long-term effects of the treatment, I’ve already observed a tighter jawline and refined lower cheeks after just a few weeks. Witnessing these visible improvements has left me thoroughly impressed. It serves as a testament to the significant impact collagen stimulation can have. The journey towards skin rejuvenation continues, and I would wholeheartedly undergo the treatment again. Ultherapy in Singapore? A resounding yes!
