I spent years containing my frizzy hair in buns and braids, taking the effort to straighten it before events, until I decided I didn’t want to do that anymore! I headed to Expat Hair Studio in Joo Chiat, curious to see how director and stylist Kat could help.
In typical Singapore fashion, I was drenched by a sudden downpour on my way in, so Kat’s team blow-dried my hair so she could see what she was working with. We talked about what I was happy with and she made some suggestions that sounded great.
Once the plan was sorted, my hair was washed and Kat went to work. The trim was quick; styling took another half hour. Kat applied mousse, showing me how to use it for the best results, then applied curl cream before diffusing.
Throughout, I was given tips to address my concerns. My hair is always flatter on top and curlier underneath, and Kat showed me how to encourage that flatter hair to match the rest. I was amazed by the result after she finished diffusing. Then, she went in with the curling iron to perfect those flatter sections – but she’d already gotten them curlier than I’m usually able to!
In the days after, the curls softened into a more natural look but kept their bounce and shape. After a couple of washes, I can also say that the layers Kat improved on look fantastic and are easier to manage! My thanks to Kat and the team at Expat Hair Studio.

Chez Vous: Private Space | Nanoplasty hair straightening treatment for frizzy hair
I like my curls, but not when they turn into unruly, frizzy hair in Singapore’s humidity! Honestly, I much prefer hassle-free, glassy straight hair that looks gorgeous even after a long day out. However, I absolutely dread the damage that comes with smoothing treatments – I still shudder from the hair fall I experienced after rebonding a decade ago!
That’s why when I heard of the Nanoplasty hair straightening treatment, I had to try it. It’s the latest anti-frizz treatment with no harsh chemicals, using only clean, top-of-the-line ingredients. I chose Chez Vous: Private Space, and the whole experience was amazing – it feels more like a spa than a salon.
Upon arrival, I was ushered into my private pod with a selection of room fragrances. I was then given an iPad with a drinks menu.
As I relaxed with my mocha cappuccino and soothing music, the super friendly hair salon director J-Lim explained how the treatment works and customised it per my request (to leave my hair ends softer and not as slick as the rest). The package includes a blissful head spa along with warm eye moxibustion therapy to lull you into a state of bliss.
The complete experience lasted about three and a half hours, which flew by with constant drinks and an amazing high tea menu. The staff took care of my comfort at every step – pillow for my arms, Netflix to watch a movie, and tea to go with the cakes.
It’s been a week since the treatment, and I’m extremely happy with the result. My hair is now frizz-free and shiny straight with a touch of natural curls at the bottom. What I love most is how low maintenance it is. Hair damage? None so far compared to rebonding. In my honest opinion, Nanoplasty is the best hair straightening treatment for frizzy hair without damage worries, and Chez Vous is the place for the experience!

The Blonde Tourage | Cezanne Keratin Treatment
When I did a keratin treatment years ago, it was quite a complicated process. You could not wash your hair, put it up in a hairband or – heaven forbid – sweat for a few days! And the smell… my eyes would stream and my scalp would sting. It seemed such a harsh, unnatural procedure to get soft, silky hair in return. The reason? Most treatments used formaldehyde which releases cancerous gases when heated.
But all that has changed now. The Cezanne keratin treatment uses a blend of silk proteins, botanical extracts and glyoxylic acid instead of formaldehyde. The protein-rich, safe ingredients are applied to the hair and combed through, then sealed in with straightening tongs. This is not to make the hair straight, but to seal in the proteins, filling in lumps and bumps along the hair shaft and making the hair smoother, more manageable and less frizzy.
And what a fantastic place to enjoy this anti-frizz keratin treatment. Arriving at the floral-festooned doorway on Club Street on a hot day, I was whisked inside by Cat and Marc who offered wine, champagne, Aperol spritz or ice cream! A pre-wash by Marc removed any oils and product build-up in my frizzy hair so all that lovely keratin could get into the hair shaft and bond evenly. He dried it a lot as well, to make the results last longer.
After the application, a 35-to-45-minute wait flew by chatting with Cat about Norway, Singapore and her new medispa opening upstairs soon (stay tuned!). Then Marc methodically worked his way around my head with a flat iron. He explained I should use a sulphate-free shampoo, but otherwise there are no restrictions – heaven! The end result is that perfect salon blow-dry, but one that I know will last three to five months!
