Looking for an aesthetic doctor in Singapore for treatments like botulinum toxin, dermal fillers or fat grafting? A name you might have heard of is Dr David Loh. The founder of David Loh Aesthetics over at Novena Medical Centre, he has been practising aesthetic medicine in Singapore for over two decades! Here, we find out more about the story behind his clinic, what inspires his work and how he sees the future of aesthetic medicine.
How it began for this aesthetic doctor in Singapore
Dr Loh has seen first hand how the field of aesthetic medicine has grown in popularity as more people now embrace the notion of improving our appearance with a little professional help. He’s also seen just how the right treatment can drastically improve someone’s confidence, helping them to put their best foot forward and live life to the fullest. It was exactly this desire to help people look and feel their best that led Dr David Loh to open David Loh Surgery back in 2002.
“I was a general practitioner (GP) at first. But my interest in aesthetic medicine was piqued as more patients came to me for aesthetic treatments and left feeling more confident,” says Dr Loh.
As he noticed the difference these treatments made to his patients, he dived into research and training, including a trip overseas in 2004 to meet the creators of botulinum toxin alongside a small group of aesthetic doctors who wanted to bring new knowledge and techniques back to Singapore. At the time, aesthetic medicine was still a relatively niche field here in the city.
Dr Loh has since published several papers in medical journals on topics such as preventing and managing complications and safer injection techniques. He has led the Society of Aesthetic Medicine since its inception in 2005, in various roles and eventually as president, a post which he only stepped down from in 2023.
The approach at David Loh Aesthetics
“As one of the first Singapore aesthetic doctors to learn about and bring advances in aesthetic medicine to local shores, I am well-versed in the wide range of treatments available. But I advocate only those that have been scientifically evaluated for safety and efficacy, or in medical jargon, evidence-based treatments.”
Today, Dr Loh continues to practice at David Loh Aesthetics where he offers non-invasive treatments including botulinum toxin, dermal fillers, laser treatments and fat grafting. All of these are performed with safe, scientifically-proven techniques with a focus on discretion and attentiveness. He is especially particular about the treatments he selects for the clinic.
“As your safety is paramount, only treatments that have undergone clinical trials – and thus proven to be safe and effective – are used.”
Looking ahead as an aesthetic doctor in Singapore
With more than 30 years as a doctor and over 20 in aesthetic medicine, Dr Loh has accumulated a wealth of knowledge that he’s eager to share. He regularly trains younger aesthetic doctors in injection techniques so that “my knowledge is passed down to the next generation.”
What about the next 20 years? Dr Loh believes that more advancements are on the horizon, with better techniques that are gentler and require less downtime. “Newer molecules will bring better injection outcomes; refinement of energy therapy will bring more effective results; and improvements in injection techniques will bring about ever safer injections,” he says.
His biggest hope, however, is that there will be more sharing within and research conducted by the medical community, “so that we can bring ever-safer treatments to patients”.
