A treatment for body contouring and tightening
“Microwaves have been used for medical purposes for decades, and are gaining popularity in the field of medical aesthetics, plastic surgery and dermatology,” says Dr Tan. “One advantage of microwaves is that they can bypass the superficial skin layer and specifically target the subcutaneous fat and deeper skin layer. This allows for non-invasive fat reduction and skin tightening, with low risk of burns or superficial skin injury.”
Onda Pro’s patented ‘coolwaves’ technology delivers focused microwave energy that is specifically calibrated to target different layers of the skin and underlying fat. Three interchangeable handpieces – Pocket (3mm), Shallow (7mm) and Deep (12mm) – allow treatment depth to be customised to each patient and area. You can choose to focus on a variety of areas such as the abdomen, flanks, thighs, arms, buttocks and back.
“The microwaves selectively target fat cells in areas with stubborn localised fat. These fat cells are disrupted and gradually eliminated by the body’s natural metabolic processes,” Dr Tan explains. Beyond fat reduction, the thermal energy simultaneously stimulates fibroblasts in the dermis to produce new collagen and elastin, leading to firmer, tighter skin over time.
Sessions take just 10 to 15 minutes per area with no downtime afterwards, and results develop gradually over one to two months. Dr Tan recommends three to four treatments spaced two weeks apart for the best outcome.
A treatment for double chin, face and neck
The fifth generation of the Onda devices has expanded its treatment areas beyond the body to include the face, jawline, neck and submental area (double chin). With the addition of the Pocket handpiece, which targets a skin depth of 3mm, Onda Pro can now target these delicate areas “where skin laxity and fat accumulation are most noticeable,” says Dr Tan.
To improve the appearance of a double chin, the treatment’s microwave energy works by reducing fat deposits beneath the chin while stimulating collagen for a sharper, more defined profile. “By improving collagen structure and reducing underlying fat, the skin appears more lifted, with improved definition along the jawline and neck,” he adds.
Onda Pro is effective for treating concerns including skin laxity, mild jowling, loose or crepey skin, fine lines and stubborn fat under the chin. Face and neck treatments take between 20 and 40 minutes, and most patients experience nothing more than a warm, comfortable sensation throughout.

The therapist asked which areas I’d like to focus on for this fat burning and body contouring session. I chose my double chin, the tops of my arms and my stomach. The heat was very manageable on my stomach and arms. The surface of the applicator is cold, so even though the Onda Pro is delivering heat I didn’t feel it too much at all. It was only a bit uncomfortable on the boney areas like my throat and jawline where there’s naturally less fat.
If you want the more intense version of the treatment, which a doctor performs instead of a therapist, they use numbing cream. There’s no downtime too, which is great, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the results develop over the next few weeks.”
