One of Singapore’s oldest and best-known Italian restaurants has been given a spectacular makeover, and it’s giving the new kids on the block a run for their money. The emphasis is on sleek and chic, the colour scheme steel grey with bold red accents.
Seating capacity has been trimmed down, so no more elbow-fights with your neighbours. Instead, you dine in cosy booths in an open-plan area overlooking the tree-lined streets of this quaint, trendy neighbourhood.
The menu, too, has been given a new lease of life by Chef Victor. We sampled the quarantotto ($40), a braised beef dish, slow-cooked for 48 hours until it’s so tender it falls off the fork. The fedelini citron ($28) comes with succulent chunks of fresh lobster and a light creamy sauce. The vegetarian selection is a little skinny, but Victor is happy to rustle up most dishes on request.
Drool-worthy desserts include deliciously zingy lemon tart and a wholesome apple crumble ($13 each), well worth the indulgence. The staff is eager to please and knowledgeable about the menu, so chat to them if you’re having difficulty in making up your mind.
