Yesterday a team of commercial pilots leapt off a six-meter high ramp in a homemade glider to soar almost two meters through the air and claim first prize in the inaugural Southeast Asia Red Bull Flugtag event.
Thirty-eight teams competed under the baking sun at Siloso Beach, Sentosa in front of a crowd of 30,000. Team Super Sevens may have won a trip to Red Bull’s Hangar-7 in Austria but the wackiest team performance complete with dodgy samba dance moves and in full costume were the Serial Flyers.
Team Amphibious Dragonfly Drone flew the furthest clocking up 18.2m to win a driving experience with BMW Mini for 18 days. But our favourites had to be the Kings of Fruit with their Durian flying machine. What it lacked in aeronautical design it more than made up for with dedication to their favourite fruit. Other stars were The Adventures of Flouride Man and the Cavity Creeps, Team Anvil, The Char Siew Pows, Pok Pok K and The Flying Chilies.
The greatest crowd support went to The ERP Team who lugged an ungainly ERP sign craft off the ramp and ditched into the sea to the cheers of the masses.
The Prize winners:
1st Place: Team Super Sevens
2nd Place, Team Riff Raff Rubber Ruckus
3rd Place, Team Flurry Express
Prize for the Wackiest Team Performance: The Serial Flyers
