In the lead up to my last birthday (lucky 44), my friends asked what I’d like for a joint present. The answer was easy. A gift voucher for one of my favourite fashion and home stores in Singapore, Badger & Fox! That way I could put their kind gestures into something I really wanted rather than them taking a shot in the dark. Here’s why, and what I invested in with my birthday shopping money.
An instant love affair with beautiful things
I’ve been a disciple of Badger & Fox since 2018 when it first established itself in small corner of Tanglin Mall as a carefully curated multi-label lifestyle store full of beautiful treasures, fashion, jewellery and homeware. Back then, I bought quite a few must-have fashion pieces including Jasper Living and Pearl & Caviar dresses; all of which I still wear today.
I’ve also snapped up leather flats and wedge heels from The Tui Collection. I challenge you to find a more comfortable yet dressy shoe! Over the years, I’ve taken home silk statement cushions for my bed, pressed gold hoop earrings, mother-of-pearl photo frames for family pics and bone-inlay trays for entertaining. It’s now become one of my favourite fashion and home stores in Singapore.
What lures me back time after time
Zdenka has such an energetic, friendly personality. She always looks effortlessly stylish in an approachable way. It’s clear the store is her passion project. She must spend hours and hours painstakingly sourcing pieces and choosing with heart. Indeed, Zdenka says she tries to bring in pieces that are made with love, by hand, by real people – pieces that have a story behind them. And it shows!
Another reason I’m a human boomerang at Badger & Fox is that I know I’ll always find quality, interesting, eclectic pieces – unlike what I generally find in a chain store. For me it’s a treat on a day off to pop in with a friend for a browse and immerse myself in the shopping experience. A bit like the anticipation of a good coffee, where you watch the barista grind the beans and enjoy the aroma, the joy of shopping at Badger & Fox is in the process of touching and feeling the wares, not just in the ultimate purchase.

Here’s what I chose with my gift voucher from my generous girlfriends.
#1 Olivia Dar silk beaded headband
Olivia Dar is a fun, happy, colourful brand of jewellery, bags and shoes that’s hand-crafted in Delhi, with a French touch. I chose one of their lightweight, fine silk headbands embroidered with beads, which is perfect to add a touch of glam to any outfit. It’s so versatile that I even saw a well-dressed race-goer wearing one as a headpiece at Melbourne Cup!
#2 Capri – Dolce Vita, a book by Assouline
This travel series of titles on chic destinations are filled with rich text and slick photography and encased in vibrant, luxe covers. Capri was a nostalgic choice as I had a romantic holiday there with my husband a few moons ago. It’s a pop of colour on my coffee table. I often leaf through it with the children!
#3 Lumira candle
My long-time friend Jayne introduced me to this range of sustainably sourced fine fragrances infused in soy wax in recyclable vessels. They not only waft heavenly scents throughout the home, but they also look elegant atop any table with their black glass exterior. Jayne finds such warmth and peace lighting the wicks that she named her little girl Lumira (Lulu for short)!
#4 Aston Studio poplin cotton shirt
I hail from Adelaide, Australia – and I love to support a homegrown brand. This contemporary label offers well-crafted shirting and ready-to-wear designs that are perfect for our tropical heat here in Singapore. The cornflower blue-and-white striped shirt I chose can be thrown over swimmers for a day at the beach or dressed up with oversized earrings and tailored pants for a long lunch.
Post birthday shopping I now have a long wish list of future purchases. This is either a problem or a project, depending on how you look at it. I choose the latter!
