If you’ve ever seen ladies skipping out of Amoy Street carrying grey and yellow-hued shopping bags, it’s likely that they’ve just dropped in at Willow & Huxley. Stocking both trend-led and classic pieces from international designers the world over (from Denmark and Holland to Spain and LA), the store’s buyers focus on bringing in quality fabrics and styles to inject fabulousness into your wardrobe.
Owner Susie Wallace, a seasoned expat who hails from the UK, brings a ton of positive energy and good vibes to the boutique, and loves to step in along with her in-house team of buyers and stylists to give helpful advice. They continually build on customer comments to make sure all styles in the store are fresh and on-point both size and design-wise and for expat and local women alike.
Fresh styles arrive on their racks each week, and there’s even a free tailoring service to make sure you’re perfectly happy with your new garments. How’s that for a stellar retail therapy experience?
That’s why we jumped at the chance when Susie mentioned she wanted to offer one of our readers a style makeover – and we hand-picked the lovely Laura Saleh, a fellow Brit and new mum. Read on for the reveal!
Name: Laura Saleh
Age: In her 30s
The “Everything” Maxi
Susie: “This maxi-dress is one of those go-to styles for every woman’s wardrobe. Black-and-white prints work for both day and night, and this palm-print number looks fabulous with a pretty pair of sandals, or dressed up with sky-high wedges or heels. To warm up the monochromatic print, we added a gold cuff and a gold-toned metallic tie belt that you can adjust to fit your waist.”
Susie: “This cobalt-blue playsuit makes a wonderful statement against Laura’s warm skin tone. It has a low-cut back, which gives great ventilation in the humidity. These leather booties are a style staple, and suit so many of the outfits in our store: their flattering colour and shape give the appearance of a longer leg.”
The Femme Fatale
Susie: “This beautiful dress speaks for itself. There’s something to be said for tailoring that doesn’t come at a ridiculous price! To complement Laura’s features and dark hair, we added a green necklace for an interesting pop of colour rather than the typical silver or gold.”
From Desk to Drinks
Susie: “This fun yet conservative outfit is perfect for those desk-to-ladies’-night situations. The pink floral print on this pencil skirt has a texture which is more dynamic for the office, and edgier for happy hour after work. Wearing it with a pink necklace gives it a more put-together feel, too.”
Laura on her experience:
“I really enjoyed the chance to get glammed up, and I loved the outfits Susie picked out. It was really refreshing to have a change from my usual ‘slobbing around chasing after the baby’ clothes, and to try some styles I don’t think I would have picked for myself. LIV’s makeup artist Kelly also gave me some great tips on buying makeup, and good brands to look out for in Singapore. I’ll definitely be back to the store! Thank you to all for the fun experience!”
