Skin care clinic review – laser for clear skin & better skin texture

15th February 2023 by Rebecca Bisset 3 Min Read

https://expatliving.sg/skin-care-clinic-review-sciton-halo-for-clear-skin-and-better-skin-texture/

I caught up with someone for a meeting and was complimenting her on her complexion, saying how smooth and healthy it looked. She said she’d had real issues – not quite acne, but bad enough – and that they had gotten worse since moving to Singapore. However, after doing regular skin laser treatments for the past eight months, she was so happy with her skin texture and really enjoying her new look of lovely clear skin. She said she rarely needed to wear foundation now!

So far, I’d avoided fillers and other injectables that plump up the skin – and I wanted to keep it that way for as long as possible. After the little chat at my meeting, this skin laser option sounded very appealing – or at least something that would make the top layer more healthy-looking. Dry skin build-up, fine wrinkles and open pores with makeup over the top wasn’t the look I was going for…

There are a lot of options around. One that really seems to be good at restructuring the surface, including decreasing pore size and improving overall skin texture, is the Sciton Halo. Eagle Eye Aesthetics is one of the few skin care clinics in Singapore to have this machine – and they also have the BBL Hero, which lots of people seem happy with.

Both are said to address subdermal sun damage, stimulate collagen and help pigmentation (liver or age spots too). They also improve the overall finish of the skin, especially on chicken pox or acne scars.

Skin laser treatment

#1 Sciton Halo

I was first treated with the Sciton Halo. This is the world’s only hybrid fractional laser that delivers a non-ablative and an ablative wavelength simultaneously to the same microscopic treatment zone. It works by delivering an intense wavelength of light that removes the outer layers of aged or sun-damaged skin. This skin laser also stimulates the underlying skin, resulting in collagen formation. As the lasered skin heals following the procedure, new skin forms that is smoother and tighter.

With full numbing cream, the treatment is manageable – though you’re still happy when it’s over! I always think breathing slowly and evenly through the discomfort is the best way to manage it. Dr Yong was really helpful, and home care is provided and is very easy to follow.

After a few days, when the scabbing and the healing had started, I found it a bit itchy. (And it’s important not to scratch!) Your skin is also really rough for about a week, so while it’s not very noticeably visible, you’re a bit conscious of feeling like
sandpaper when you give someone a hug!

The scabbing was very gradual – just tiny little bits rubbing off. And I’m very happy with the result, especially not having that top layer of old skin.

An overview of Sciton Halo

  • For skin rejuvenation and fractional skin resurfacing treatment
  • Improves skin texture, wrinkles and fine lines, pigmentation, anti-ageing, pores
  • Procedure duration: 15 minutes, and numbing time of 45 minutes
  • Downtime: five to seven days of redness, followed by scabbing
  • Price: $2,000 (before GST) per session

Great results are often achieved in a single treatment, while older, non-hybrid technologies typically require five to six treatments to demonstrate similar results.

#2 Sciton BBL HERO

I also had a session with the BBL HERO for a couple of areas of pigmentation. The doctor also used it to zap a large broken vein near my nose. But mainly it helps with blotchiness and uneven tone so it softened it but didn’t remove it.

BroadBand Light (BBL) is the world’s most powerful IPL device on the market. With different wavelength modes and power settings, the BBL HERO – which stands for “High Energy Rapid Output” – can be tailored for individuals to treat a wide variety of conditions ranging from hair removal to pigmentation and acne, and it provides anti-ageing benefits too! That’s why the different treatment subtypes are known as Forever Young (Anti-ageing), SkinTyte (Lifting), ForeverClear (Acne) and Forever Flawless (Pigmentation).

An overview of Sciton BBL HERO

  • For anti-ageing and brightening/clear skin
  • Treats fine vessels (redness), pigmentation, anti-ageing, lifting, skin tightening
  • Procedure duration: 20-30 minutes
  • Downtime: none, but three to five days of scabbing (depending on skin condition and
    pigmentation type)
  • Price: from $399 (before GST) per session

I think that having these skin lasers every six months would keep a lot of issues at bay! I saw Helen Bonham-Carter on TV recently and I noticed she’s kept her crows’ feet and a few wrinkles, but her skin texture is amazing, and she has very clear skin too – almost glowy. I reckon that’s the way to age gracefully!
