Look attractive with or without your face mask!

16th March 2023 by Expat Living 4 Min Read

There are many inconveniences caused by the pandemic, but having to wear a face mask has turned out to be a blessing in disguise for some. It’s been great for hiding double chins and heavy jowls – and maskne too!

A more in-depth study revealed that all faces rated lower on the attractiveness scale and 70% of faces rated average on the same scale are deemed much more attractive once the face mask is worn. It turns out that the lower half of our faces factor much more into our overall attractiveness than we may think!

What about when the face mask comes off?

A face mask can certainly help to hide your facial insecurities – temporarily. However, if you want to truly be comfortable in your own skin, a more lasting change may be due. Beauty treatments and enhancements can give your self-image and confidence a much-needed boost. They allow you to not have to worry about looking any less attractive when you’re mask-free!

The impact of aesthetics and cosmetic procedures is not just skin-deep. A report in Clinical Psychological Science reveals that patients can experience more happiness, higher self-esteem and overall life satisfaction with the help of enhancements. Heightened confidence could prove helpful in your dating and social life too!

In Singapore, Amaris B. Clinic offers a variety of beauty treatments and procedures backed by research and experience, and emphasises personalised care and patient safety. Here are some beauty treatments and procedures that can fix what the masks are hiding.

#1 Removing fat from double chins, jawlines and jowls

While we have at least been able to hide it behind a mask, a double chin along with neck fat can be stubborn and spoil an otherwise attractive face shape. While many may attribute fat in these areas to general weight gain, the reality is that it can also be caused by different factors – including genetics! In many cases, losing weight doesn’t help us to lose the “extra chins”.

While there are many non-incisive products for face shaping, the double chin can still come back when you take a break from using the products. A more permanent and clinically proven method is facial liposuction, which removes fat from your jawline and jowls, so you no longer have to depend on your mask to hide it. Carried out by Dr. Ivan Puah, MOH liposuction accredited doctor and medical director of Amaris B. Clinic, facial liposuction is a precise and delicate facial sculpting procedure. The aim is not just to remove fat but also to contour and define jawlines and tighten saggy skin for a more youthful facial profile.

Ageing in our skin can show up as early as in our 30s, exacerbated by factors like stress and trauma. Exhaustion from work, parenting and other areas of life can really take a toll on the skin! Fat grafting for facial rejuvenation is a popular procedure for this.

Also known as ADR-C Facial Enhancement, this treatment involves small amounts of fat tissue taken from your abdomen or thighs and injected into areas of concern to effectively target volume loss due to ageing such as sunken cheeks, fine lines around the eyes, and to improve skin texture and tone. As the procedure uses your own fat sources to rejuvenate and volumise your face, the end result is au naturel and long-lasting!

#3 Skin lifting

Not everyone is comfortable with the idea of enhancement surgery, and that’s okay. You can still get a confidence boost with a shorter recovery period. Suppose you’d like to tighten and lift your skin with a non-invasive procedure. In that case, Ultherapy is the only FDA-cleared, non-invasive procedure that lifts the skin, neck, eyebrows and improves lines and wrinkles on the decolletage. It uses micro-focused ultrasound to generate thermal effects beneath the skin, inducing your body’s own process to create fresh, new collagen.

The difference between Ultherapy and other treatments such as radiofrequency or surgery is that it bypasses the skin’s surface through ultrasound with focused imaging – thus targeting just the right amount of ultrasound energy at the right depths and temperature! Results can be seen over two to three months as new collagen works to lift the skin from within; the effect continues to improve for three to six months and can last a year or more. Amaris B. is one of the only clinics in Singapore to provide an authentic Ultherapy treatment.

#4 Repairing and restoring skin

A definite downside of constantly having to wear a mask is ‘maskne’, the breakout from irritation caused by the coverage on your face. Although the mask conveniently hides acne scars, large pores, uneven skin pigmentation and the results of sun damage, the issues don’t go away.

PICO Fractional Laser is a treatment that can help repair, restore and rejuvenate the skin, so you can proudly show off a clear face when the mask is off.

Who is conducting the procedures?

When making permanent changes in your appearance, Amaris B. Clinic suggests taking a cautious approach; try to source experienced, credible and approved doctors. Besides being accredited by MOH to perform liposuction in Singapore, Dr Ivan Puah has also received his Master training in injectables. He is the appointed trainer for fellow doctors such as Botulinum toxins and dermal fillers. With over 15 years of experience in facial aesthetics and body sculpting, you can expect professional advice and recommendations that don’t compromise your wellbeing.

It’s nice that your face is looking attractive with the mask on, but let’s get it looking even more attractive without it!
