Here’s a varied buffet selection that includes fresh seafood, a carvery, plenty of Southeast Asian dishes and Indian, Japanese and Chinese stations. Best of all, you can sample authentic Peranakan (Straits-Chinese) dishes such as ayam buah keluak and poh pia. The desserts are amazing – we tried the light, whipped durian pudding and licked the bowl clean. Adults pay $45, children $22.50.

Cooking Courses
There are lots of new cooking classes for helpers at The Expat Kitchen. Choose from Dinner Parties, Fat Free Feast, Feeding a Healthy Family, Fish Frenzy, Six Sensational Stir-fries and Meals in Minutes – or sign up for all of them. These one-day classes are $120 each and begin in July.

Hot Muffins
In the name of research, we recently tried some Hobie muffins that were delivered to our doorstep. Initial reports were overwhelmingly positive, largely due, we suspect, to the use of real butter, real chocolate and other yummy ingredients.  Available at the bigger Cold Storage and Market Place supermarkets.

Chocolate Haven
The sound of 72-percent Venezuelan Araguani hot chocolate, fresh hazelnut praline chocolates and 80-percent chocolate ice-cream with chocolate pearls is music to our ears. These are just some of the new creations at Laurent Bernard outlets. The Portsdown Road outlet has also just introduced weekend breakfast sets.
