Bar review: We test out a few drinks at The Green Door on Dempsey Road, Singapore

The Green Door
13A Dempsey Road
6476 2922

Who Drinks Here: Dempsey is experiencing a revival, and this is the latest addition to a handful of new bars, restaurants and clubs that have popped up. Trendsetters are all over the place.

Best Thing About It:
The atmosphere is lovely. It’s probably the best setting in Dempsey: partly outdoors, overlooking jungle with lights twinkling romantically; partly indoor bar where the staff conjure up cocktails. They’ve got the lighting spot on, making this somewhere you’ll want to set up camp for the night.

Signature Drinks:
Fun cocktails are served in interesting glasses and jars. Try the Raunchy Redhead – vodka, triple sec, fresh watermelon, lime juice and kaffir leaves – or the Terrible Tyler’s Threesome with vodka, lychee liquor and fresh passion fruit, apple and lemon juice (both $15 (Happy Hour) or $19).

Nibbles and Noshes: They say they’re a “before and after” bar, as in before or after dinner. Of the bar snacks, we liked the corn and shrimp fritters ($15), but it’s more about the great atmosphere and drinks.

When To Go:
Sundays to Thursdays 5pm to midnight, Fridays and Saturdays till 1am. We hear there’s dancing in the wee small hours; if the DJ isn’t there, the music is a mix of Top 40s and golden oldies.
