Restaurant Review: The Clay Oven at Dempsey in Singapore

The Clay Oven Asia

26B Dempsey Road
(+65) 6472 0221

Tucked into a corner of Dempsey, behind Long Beach Seafood, The Clay Oven is a great new gastro discovery.

The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and took time to explain the menu. We started with a shared platter for two which included classics of Indian food, including tender cuts of succulent chicken tikka, murg kasturi kebabs, seekh kebab – minced lamb with coriander, mint, garlic and ginger – and my favourite, local white fish fillets marinated with spiced yoghurt and dill ($24.90).

For mains, we ordered a chicken tikka masala ($14.90) and lamb rogan josh ($17.90) with its subtle blend of Kashmiri spices, accompanied with plain and garlic naan and pilau rice.

Vegetarians are also well catered for, with several excellent vegetarian choices available including palak paneer ($9.90), pindi chana masala ($7.90), and daal makhni ($9.90).

The dessert menu contains both Western and Indian favourites, such as a mango sorbet, a dark and very nice Royal Belgian chocolate cake ($7) and, for the sweet of tooth, a more traditional pistachio and saffron kulfi ($5).
