Counselling for Kids: Where to Go

19th January 2022 by Expat Living 4 Min Read

Overwhelmed with a disruptive or difficult child? Unable to figure out how to help them face issues at school? You don’t have to do it on your own! There are many counselling centres in Singapore that have experienced teams of child psychologists, therapists and counsellors. They offer a wide range of child counselling and therapy for kids as well as support for parents. Here are some you can look up.

Psych Connect – counselling centre Singapore

The team at Psych Connect have years of experience in working with children, teens and young adults who are facing emotional, interpersonal, behavioural and academic challenges. Offering support for children as young as two, the psychology clinic works together with families and stakeholders such as schools. They strongly believe that family therapy and parental and teacher support are helpful in addressing and managing the issues that children face. For a holistic approach, they have a team of clinical, child counselling and paediatric forensic psychologists along with counsellors, art psychotherapists and educational, speech and occupational therapists.

Challenges they offer help for include but are not limited to learning difficulties, mood disorders, developmental and neuropsychological conditions (such as ADHD and autism), and even the stresses of being a third culture kid. The clinic also offers related services such as psychological diagnostic assessment and therapy sessions including educational, occupational, speech, and family and behaviour therapies.

The team at this counselling centre in Singapore specialises in the treatment of aversive childhood experiences, trauma and medical conditions that have a psychological presentation (such as IBS and psych dermatology).

Therapy goals are determined through careful assessment of the problem the child is facing. Before intervention, the team uses a range of formal tools to objectively assess and gain a greater understanding of processes underlying the issue. These findings are then used to develop collaborative treatment goals. This ensures that the therapy for kids is informed and targeted. Once therapy begins, progress toward the goals is regularly assessed through these objective tools.

This ‘whole child approach’ guides the practice.

The team also recognises the challenges that children and their families face on a daily basis. They believe that every child and adolescent has the potential to lead a fulfilling and rewarding life; that’s why they’re dedicated to helping families.

Services include individual counselling for kids and adolescents, educational and behavioural therapies, parenting skills training by child psychologists, family counselling, psychological assessments by licenced clinical child psychologies and neuropsychological assessments.
