An infant care and early years centre for children from as young as two months
In Toa Payoh Central, there’s an infant care centre and preschool that supports new parents with infants from as young as two months up to four years of age. With the understanding that different families have different needs, Sunflower Baby House & Preschool has various care options. Local and expatriate families can choose from full day, half day, flexi-care, short term and emergency care at the early years centre.
Angela Ng, founder of Sunflower Baby House & Preschool, envisioned the infant care centre as a nurturing environment where children receive love and care while their parents work. She says, “If you’re looking for an exclusive setting that is warm with a family-like environment, we are the perfect fit for your family.”
Each day, infants and toddlers engage in stimulating activities along with ample opportunities for play and social interaction, and receive nutritious meals. Their emotional needs, interests and individuality are nurtured and respected.
Infant care centre with Multiple Intelligence learning approach
In 1983, Howard Gardner, a psychologist, suggested that intelligence is multifaceted and encompasses a diverse range of abilities and talents. He suggests that each individual possesses multiple intelligences, which represent distinct cognitive abilities for processing information and solving problems.
Sunflower Baby House & Preschool believes that every child possesses a unique set of intelligences. The early years centre uses a Multiple Intelligence learning approach in nurturing the various intelligences in each child.
These intelligences include:
- Linguistic: sensitivity to language and the ability to effectively use words
- Logical-mathematical: logical reasoning and mathematical problem-solving skills
- Spatial: the capacity to perceive and manipulate visual and spatial information
- Bodily-kinesthetic: the physical coordination and skill in using one’s body
- Musical: sensitivity to rhythm, melody and pitch
- Interpersonal: understanding and interacting effectively with others
- Intrapersonal: self-awareness and the ability to understand one’s own emotions, motivations and goals
- Naturalistic: the ability to recognise and categorise patterns in nature
Accredited educators at Sunflower Baby House & Preschool
Helping infants nurture multiple intelligences at this infant care centre is a team of accredited educators. Sunflower says that the accreditation requirements are set by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) in Singapore, and all its educators meet these mandated requirements. They also participate in Continued Professional Development courses, briefings and courses organised by ECDA and engage in regular in-house training throughout the year.
The school adds that the high teacher-child ratio of this early years centre fosters optimal teacher-child interactions. Sunflower says that in this conducive environment, each child receives the best care and attention.
Hear from parents…
Jo-Ann and Guy Proulx, Filipino and American; Hans (20), Luis (18), Archie (17), John (15), Isabella (7) and Sophia Ann (1)
“We’ve been living in Singapore since 2010. Sophia is currently attending Playgroup at Sunflower, after starting with infant care the past year.
Archie, John and Isabella all attended Sunflower, from Preschool through K-2. Archie was the first to attend in 2009/10. Prior to this, Guy had received a recommendation from the Elementary Principal of Singapore American School that stated the children who attended Sunflower were very well prepared to enter Primary/Elementary school. We’ve found that to be the case through the years and have often referred the school to other families.
Our children enjoy attending Sunflower. They come home happy and inquisitive about what they’ve learned during the day. The learning environment is well suited to bring out the best in toddlers and young children. The teachers go out of their way to work with each student during the course of the day.
We’ve always marvelled at how quickly our kids have developed while attending Sunflower. A wide variety of classes and activities develop critical motor skills, physical abilities and basics in Maths, Science, English and Mandarin. We strongly recommend Sunflower Baby House & Preschool to all parents and expatriates who are new to Singapore.”
