Retail therapy that gives back? We’re on board. Leah Lambert tells us more about Glamorous Giving, past to present.
How did you first come up with the Glamorous Giving concept?
My brand Stones that Rock has always held an annual clearance sale, but in 2013 we decided to expand the event, using it as an opportunity to raise money for charity. Having long admired the work of the Singapore Committee for UN Women, we asked them if they’d like to partner with us to create an event that would both raise their profile and contribute financially towards the work they do in the region. So, Glamorous Giving was born – and, in the years since, has become one of Singapore’s most popular sale events.
How do you feel it has grown, from inception to becoming an established shopping event?
We’re absolutely delighted at the growth of Glamorous Giving. With the support of our long-time media sponsors Expat Living and Travelshopa, along with new fashion media sponsor Harper’s Bazaar Singapore plus 16 new brands on board, the last event was our biggest and best yet. It’s our focus and aim to continue to grow the event and provide a recognised platform where local businesses can stylishly clear past collections and sale stock, while at the same time supporting an enormously worthwhile cause.
You’ve always supported the Singapore Committee for UN Women; what’s the motivation for that?
The Singapore Committee for UN Women does vital work in supporting UN Member States as they set global standards for achieving gender equality. It works globally to make equal participation in all aspects of life. Glamorous Giving not only contributes financially to the Singapore Committee for UN Women, it also increases awareness of the work the committee does and encourages growth in membership and participation.
