Bar Review: Unca Bunca at Circular Rd in Singapore

47/48 Circular Road

Boat Quay

This laid-back bar behind Boat Quay is where everyone knows your name … and they’re always glad you came.

The Crowd: Mostly regulars who work in the city. Owner Dave Wu has immortalised his most loyal customers by hanging framed photographs of them on the wall. They are a friendly bunch at this cosy, casual drinking hole.

The Tunes: Dave has a big selection of crowd-pleasers, and if you ask him nicely he’ll take requests. There are also a couple of big TV screens so one can participate in a little sports-viewing – usually football.

What’s Our Tipple?
Bottled beer, usually Heineken. Every now and again, however, we suck on something a little more exotic such as Little Creatures beer or Magners Irish Cider.

What We Like:
Arriving at Unca after a hard day’s work feels like coming home. Some of the bigger bars on Boat Quay lack soul, but not this one. Inside, the ambience is cosy, and outside is always buzzing. The staff is über-efficient and you’ll never find yourself short of a drink. There is a dartboard and a pool table for those who want to whack a few balls around, and a good selection of bar snacks and reasonably priced meals.

Best Time to Go: Any night of the week. You’ll always find familiar faces catching up on the day’s events, and Dave is always hovering to make sure everyone is happy and well-hydrated.
