There are many benefits of joining a playgroup with your baby and toddler – bonding time, fun activities, meeting other parents, the list goes on. With a ton of playgroups in Singapore, how do you choose the right one? One great group is Mucky pups, which was started seven years ago by expat mum Rachel Falciola. They offer fabulous sessions for little ones aged six months to three years. Read on to find out why you should consider joining them!
What can you expect?
Many of the class leaders are mums who brought their children to attend the sessions and eventually decided to start leading them. Their aim is to inspire creativity through art-based sensory play. Each week, sessions have a different theme for kids to explore such as zoos, cars, colours, shapes and dinosaurs. Helpers are also welcome!
Whether you join “Mini Muckypups” sensory play class for babies aged six to 14 months or “Muckypups” creative class for toddlers aged one to three, you and your little ones can look forward to interactive activities such as singing, dancing, games, bubbles and crafts. Kids will also get to explore through messy play and learn about textures and objects such as jelly, water, ice and even spaghetti. Classes make use of everyday items, giving you plenty of activity ideas that you can easily replicate at home. Through the fun programme, children benefit physically and socially, while parents have the opportunity to mingle, build friendships and leave the mess behind!
When are they held and how much do they cost?
Classes start from $25 (first class is a trial class for $10) and are flexible – “pay as you go”. The team organises over 30 classes on weekdays at various condos across the island (including Sentosa). Get more information about class locations and timings on their Facebook page.
What parents have to say
“We had just moved into our new condo and I spotted some happy tots, parents and helpers leaving the function room. The following week, I peeked into the class and discovered the magic of Mucky pups! Since then, my little ones have been attending for the last four years. There are stretches where my youngest joins Mucky pups three times per week. Although my toddler is enrolled in various classes, every morning she eagerly inquires: “Where’s me going today, Muckypupshhhh?” The class flow remains the same each week, but with a new theme introduced. It instills a combination of confidence and curiosity in the toddlers. Most importantly, the Mucky pups team holds such passion for children. My kids will forever have fond memories of Mucky pups.”

“I first heard about Mucky pups in 2014 after arriving in Singapore when I was looking for an activity to do with my young son. Five years and two more kids later, we’re still attending every week! My kids love the familiarity of the songs in the class, which have transformed at home, with new words and actions. Even though there’s a new theme during every class, the routine of activities have helped them develop confidence and independence. They love getting messy with the artwork and I love the collection of memories I have from their time there, from Mother’s Day and Christmas cards to Valentine’s Day pictures. It’s one of the most age-appropriate classes I have found for toddlers in Singapore as everything is pitched exactly to their ability and understanding. We love Mucky pups!”
– Isabel Kelly, Irish
“My son loves painting and craft time in his Mucky pups class. Every week, Rachel prepares different songs and materials to play with, which I can’t think of doing at home. This is its strong point, compared to other baby classes that we tried. I also like that it is ‘pay as you go’ instead needing to sign up for packages. My mothers’ group on Facebook recommended this class and we’ve been attending once a week for more than six months. My son has learned how to clean toys up with the ‘clean up’ song from the class – he does it at home too. I love it!”
