Thinking about boarding school?

6th September 2022 by Expat Living 3 Min Read

https://expatliving.sg/epsom-international-school-malaysia-boarding-school/

Epsom International School offers a British curriculum and boarding school option in Negri Sembilan, Malaysia. We asked the school’s headmaster, MATTHEW BROWN, to give us a rundown of the international school in Malaysia as an option for families living in Singapore.

Epsom Malaysia is the only sister school of Epsom College, which was voted one of the UK’s top co-ed boarding schools by The Telegraph and The Times. The international school in Malaysia is located just 45 minutes outside of the Kuala Lumpur city centre and 15 minutes from KL International Airport.

WEEKDAY BOARDING PROGRAMME

Parents typically send their children to boarding schools to become more self-reliant and independent, personal attributes that day school education pathways cannot always offer. Boarders exhibit a sense of personal responsibility that their day school peers may not develop until at least college or university age.

Students at Epsom Malaysia experience the on-campus community feel, academic environment and engagement with academic staff in a pastoral setting of a British boarding school. Parents can be assured that their child’s needs will be catered for by the space, time, safety and adventure offered here.

Children of residents of Singapore who wish to pursue their studies at Epsom Malaysia can board at the school from Monday to Friday and return home at the end of their school week. This allows families in Singapore to reap the benefits of boarding school during the week and enjoy quality time together on the weekends.

A FUTURE READY CURRICULUM

Students educated within the British academic system are proven to be among the most employable in the world. They’re recognised as adept analytical thinkers who boast excellent communication skills.

Epsom Malaysia’s Future Ready curriculum augments nearly 200 years of tradition and academic excellence with practical instruction that’s culturally and contextually relevant to a fast-growing Asia.

We offer students a holistic school experience in small class sizes with a 1:6 teacher-to-student ratio. This delivers excellent academic results – 73 percent A-star to A grades at A-Level and IGCSE, with entry to top universities such as Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, LSE and Stanford.

Our school promotes equal proficiency in English and Mandarin through the English Mandarin Immersion Programme starting from prep school. Students are encouraged to achieve conversational Mandarin fluency upon graduation, benchmarked against an internationally recognised HSK certification. This is supplemented by contextually relevant teaching such as the Singapore Maths Learning strategy.

The school also facilitates internships at Malaysia’s most successful companies and organisations, allowing students to engage in real-world application of classroom learning.

PASTORAL CARE & ACTIVITIES

We have an open-door policy for after school academic and pastoral support – students have 24/7 access to on-site, fully-vaccinated pastoral, medical and counselling staff. Students from English as an Additional Language backgrounds also receive specialist transition classes as they progress through the school.

Our vibrant Super Curricular programme focuses on a student’s holistic development that helps them identify their sporting passions. Most recently, the Mouratoglou Tennis Programme with Patrick Mouratoglou was launched. He’s one of the most influential coaches in tennis and has been credited with the training and development of several young rising stars including Stefanos Tsitsipas, Coco Gauff, Holger Rune and Alexei Popyrin.

A Full Boarding add-on to stay over the weekends at this international school in Malaysia is available for an additional fee of $5,000 per year.
