Dulwich College (Singapore) is one of the top British schools in Singapore. We talk to the new Head of College, David Ingram.

DAVID INGRAM has recently returned to Singapore as Head of College at Dulwich College (Singapore), taking over from Nick Magnus, MBE, the founding Head of College, in August. This comes after David’s stint as founding Head of College at Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi. We hear how he’s settling in to Singapore with his wife, 15-year-old daughter and cat Simba, and what he’s looking forward to in his new role at one of the top British Schools in Singapore.
Where are you from originally?
I was born in the UK, but my family moved overseas when I was 12. My teenage years were spent in the USA and the Virgin Islands.
What brought you back to Singapore?
Singapore has always felt like a second home – our daughter was born at NUH. Having lived here before, I truly appreciate the city’s balance of green spaces, heritage and innovation.
My previous experience within the Dulwich family of schools has shown me how deeply the school values putting students first. Returning as Head of School at one of the top British schools in Singapore felt like a natural next step – I’m excited to build on that foundation in a city I know and respect.
Tell us a bit about your role as Headmaster of Dulwich College (Singapore).
My role is to support our students and staff so everyone can do their best work. I lead a dedicated team to ensure that our students’ academic, social and emotional needs always come first. I approach leadership with a focus on listening, learning and keeping students’ interests at the heart of every decision.

What are you most looking forward to in your role at one of the top British schools in Singapore?
I’m especially interested in further supporting student voice and agency. The Ignite! programme is a great example – giving students opportunities to pursue their passions and shape their own learning. I’m also keen to learn more about our use of the Compassionate Systems Framework, which fosters emotional literacy and deep thinking.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
I love spending time outdoors – walking or cycling along the Green Corridor or exploring parks and nature reserves with my family.
I also enjoy cooking and experimenting with ingredients inspired by Singapore’s diverse food culture. On quieter days, I’m happiest with a book in one of the city’s many green spaces or cafés.
What are you looking forward to most for the rest of 2025 and into 2026?
I’m looking forward to the new school year – getting to know our students and families, meeting new families, supporting our students, and working with colleagues who are committed to student wellbeing and growth to keep our school moving forward.
Personally, I’m excited to explore more of Singapore and learn about the city’s environmental initiatives. Seeing how these efforts shape the city’s future, and connecting them with our students’ learning, is something I’m genuinely looking forward to.
