Shopping for independent fashion in Singapore: Presenting oh-so-stylish store Inverted Edge

By: Susannah Jaffer

While the fashion scene is growing significantly in Singapore (yay!), there is still a big gap in price and quality between high-street brands and high-end luxury brands here on the island. What’s out there for someone who’s prepared to spend more than they would at Topshop (but far less than the prospect of Chloe!) when looking for super well-made, trendy and, most importantly, unique design? Cue fashion forward online retailer Inverted Edge (don’t act surprised that our fancy intro was heading in this direction).

Inverted Edge have made names for themselves by discovering a number of talented designers in the region and selling their one-off collections in Singapore. We’re talking high quality, yet good-priced limited-edition fashion pieces.

To mark a brilliant first year, Inverted Edge are celebrating with one hell of a birthday celebration: For a whole month, the online store will be opening up their warehouse to the public for a shopping extravaganza from 22 April – 16 May.

Pieces from their exciting warehouse sale!

And that’s not all! Expat Living readers are being treated to 15 percent off everything! All you have to do is state the discount code EXPAT15, whether it’s at the warehouse pop-up store or online (code valid until June 30 2014). So if you’ve been eyeing a piece online or want chance to try before you buy, now’s the time!

And that’s still not all! Professional stylist Melinda Barve (who has previously worked for Browns in London) will be teaming up with Inverted Edge during their anniversary month and offering free personal shopping experiences for individuals or groups (refreshments included!). Simply email stylist@invertededge.com for an appointment and visit their website for more information.

Finally, all fashionistas should mark down Wednesday 14 May, 6pm – 9pm Melinda will be hosting a special, free styling event for shoppers. She will be presenting the hottest Spring/Summer trends in 2014, so get your girlfriends along for some serious style inspiration, followed by a spot of shopping with EL’s discount! Lovely.

Established in early 2013, Inverted Edge strives to distinguish itself by offering women a curated selection of local and international designers from all around Asia Pacific, including names such as Karen Walker, Fleamadonna, Pauline Ning and Stylestalker. Whether it’s clothes, bags or accessories you’re after, the shopping site isn’t about fast-fashion and fads – they’re about selling contemporary, high-quality labels that produce limited-edition pieces you’ll be wearing for years to come.

Part of Inverted Edge‘s charm is how they spotlight emerging designers who are making clothing collections in limited quantities. This means you can be sure you’re buying into an item that isn’t available on tap at your local high-street store.

Another added bonus? The fact that they’re website is oh-so-easy to use. Yup, you can go forth and shop away without leaving your living room (or, if we’re honest, bed). You’ll also be chuffed to discover that all designers offer their selections in a full international size range – no size zeros here, ladies.
