Brow and lash reviews – let’s see the results!

14th April 2023 by Expat Living 4 Min Read

A set of semi-permanent, well-defined brows and perfectly curled lashes can make your make-up routine so much faster and easier. If you’re thinking of trying out eyebrow embroidery and lash lift in Singapore, Jo Artysan – The Brow Specialist can help. Read on for our reviews of this brow and lash specialist –  in their cool salon at TripleOne Somerset on Orchard Road.

Our reviews

Review 1: 9-D Microshading Brows

I had heard a lot of good reviews about Jo Artysan from friends, so I was excited (although still a little fearful) when I made the booking for Jo to microblade my eyebrows. Their new salon in 111 Somerset is bright, with white marble and luxe pink and copper accents. It’s clear that Jo has thought through every detail.

The team first took down my details and used an iPad to show me the different shaping styles and processes. Then, they led me to a movie-style makeup desk where Jo assessed my brows using rulers and guides to achieve my desired brow look – strong but super natural, with an arch designed to make my eyes look bigger. You also get to choose your brow style, whether you like a makeup effect with filled-in-colour or natural, hairlike strokes, or a combination of both.

Using her professional assessment and keen eye for measurement, Jo drew on the shape based on my golden facial ratio. We decided on a combination of natural strokes and some filler colour, which will make me more “Zoom-ready” with minimal effort. Then, I’m led through the heavy velvet drape to a special private room where numbing cream is applied; I listen to a podcast for 30 minutes while waiting. My biggest tip for anyone who is a bit squeamish is to wear headphones and listen to music or a podcast during the treatment. This way, you don’t hear the scratching noises of their microblading equipment on skin, which can really grate on you after a while, even if there is no actual sensation or pain.

The whole process takes an hour, with hundreds of tiny cuts across both brows. I drifted in and out of sleep; the comfortable bed and heavy blanket are spa-like. I expected the reveal to be of reddened, swollen brows before seeing the real effect, but as Jo made me hold a mirror up, I actually gasped. My new brows looked so natural that no one could possibly know that I just got them done!

A take-home kit includes healing cream and an infographic card, which clearly details what to do (or not to do) each day until your touchup appointment four to eight weeks later. My brows peeled and healed well. There are now a few small patches which are not as dark as others, but Jo assures me via an online photo check on WhatsApp that the touchup will fill in those and I’m confident that they will. The whole process was very professional, caring and pain-free, with great results that should last a year or more with care. Best part was there wasn’t any hard selling, and they were upfront with their advice. In fact, I felt really assured and knew what to expect. And I got a lovely nap too!

Review 2: Lash Botox

What an amazing experience at Jo Artysan! I am absolutely in love with my newly lifted and tinted lashes. The team at Jo Artysan have been wonderful, professional and so lovely.

I approached Jo Artysan as I needed a solution to save my droopy straight lashes. And I didn’t want to go through the time-consuming hassle of curling and applying mascara onto my lashes every morning! Not to mention, there’s the dreaded process of thoroughly removing the mascara at the end of every tiring day. The over-the-phone consultation with the team was informative and the appointment booking process was seamless.

Upon stepping into the studio, I was welcomed by their friendly staff who made me feel like I was a long-time friend. I was feeling at home in no time. The atmosphere at the studio offered a sense of luxury, tranquillity and top-notch cleanliness. Their COVID-19 safety measures are fully evident and I felt assured and relaxed.

My Lash Botox treatment included a lash lift along with a semi-permanent mascara coating. The staff also took into careful consideration what I wanted to achieve, and offered good advice. That really put me at ease and made me feel comfortable. My artist was knowledgeable and knew what curl would work on my lashes. Her attention to detail was simply excellent. There was zero discomfort on my eyes throughout the treatment and my lashes look immaculate after just one hour. I’m so pleased with the results of the lash lift and tint. I would definitely recommend Jo Artysan’s Lash Botox treatment as the results are natural and subtle, yet enough to see a difference!

The Jo Artysan staff are always, welcoming, warm, inviting and professional, right from booking an appointment and throughout post-treatment. The Lash Botox treatment is a great investment. It has saved me so much time doing my makeup in the mornings! I’m very happy with the results and I fully trust Jo Artysan with my beauty needs.
