We review Club 826 men’s fashion collection

14th March 2023 by Georgina Hockley 5 Min Read

https://expatliving.sg/mens-fashion-in-singapore-review-club-826-linen-shirts/

I’m always on the lookout for stylish men’s fashion in Singapore for my globe-trotting husband. So I was excited when cosmopolitan, curated menswear brand Club 826 delivered its capsule collection to our door. Think: a 14-piece resort wear collection designed to be effortlessly mixed and matched for smart or casual summer living. Classic chinos, blazers, t-shirts and linen shirts for men never looked so good!

All about Club 826 founder and stylist Leigh Millar

Scot LEIGH MILLAR, stylist and founder of Club 826, started out as an interior designer working on high-end residential and boutique hotel projects around the world. She broke into the styling game by pulling a fabulous wardrobe for a businessman client in a bind.

Now, Leigh has over a decade of experience working across the globe as a men’s fashion stylist. It’s safe to say she understands how men dress, and how they like to shop. She knows that men are looking for quality, style, consistency and, above all, ease. Working with a resort wear brand in Bali, she learnt that to be successful in men’s fashion in Singapore, her collections must suit the year-round heat.

Leigh adores travel, and has perfected the fine art of dressing elegantly from a suitcase. This led her to launch Club 826. “My vision was to create a suitcase ready capsule of clothes that empowers, enables and excites men to purchase clothes confidently with minimum effort and maximum style” says Leigh. She finds joy collating the endlessly versatile and timeless summer pieces men love. And she creates perfectly edited, beautifully crafted capsules to shop in one go. “Men should spend less time browsing for clothes, and more time living in them.”

Luxury men’s fashion, the Club 826 story

Club 826 is a new UK men’s fashion brand for the modern man launching online in Singapore. It’s a brand with a sunshine state of mind, providing an effortless summer style solution. The resort wear capsule collections of versatile classics can be worn in any combination. From sunrise to sunset.

Expect casual essentials to beautifully cut relaxed tailoring. Each Club 826 piece is crafted by artisans in Portugal from luxurious Italian linen or the finest Peruvian cotton. Items are designed to last from one season to the next, and wear after wear. Sustainability is also front of mind, with each limited edition collection made in small batches to reduce waste. The brand aims to be carbon neutral by the end 2024.

Why the name? Leigh researched men’s online shopping habits and found that men spend on average 8.26 minutes browsing online (women spend 20 minutes). More often than not, men buy only one item (or nothing) as the options are overwhelming. Club 826 features all items on one page (no scrolling or drop-down menus), so an entire wardrobe can be bought at once. With a potential of 110 outfit combinations, you can’t get more efficient than that!

Leigh offers one-on-one styling advice to help make the most of your purchase. The website also has a handy ‘how to wear’ section with suggested outfit combinations for both casual and smart occasions.  With express delivery in two-to-five business days, your man will be suited and booted with speed. You can also ship to the location of your choice – even to a private island villa if you’re on holiday!

The Club 826 Capsule: one collection, 14 pieces, effortless style

The Club 826 Capsule was inspired by Leigh’s travels to the Caribbean. The soft pink of Antiguan sands, Old Havana’s laid-back elegance, and the lightest of breezes. The beauty of this collection is that it offers complete flexibility. If you fall in love with a piece you can opt to buy one item, two items, or all 14! Top up his existing wardrobe with some new summer pieces, and before you know it, your man will be looking très dapper.

A week wearing Club 826: Our review

My husband is an Australian management consultant and a father of four. Juggling a busy job with the demands of family life is a challenge, especially with regular work travel. In his spare time he runs and plays tennis to keep fit. He enjoys the ease of the expat lifestyle but finds the  humid weather hard when it comes to sourcing fashion. Liking a classic look and to dress well, if he finds a cut or style he likes, he’ll buy the same piece year after year (from Australian brands back home). He has neither the time nor inclination to search endlessly online for new clothes. The goal is to look good and feel great – fast.

Look #1 – Sunday Brunch with family

Wearing: Havana elegant summer blazer in French grey; Antigua classic linen shirt in French navy; Rio oyster white linen shorts

We love donning our Sunday best and heading to a hotel for quintessential Singapore champagne brunch. Before the brunch, our son had a soccer match, so my husband had to dress for both events. On the pitch he rolled up the sleeves on his shirt, and on arrival at the hotel he buttoned up and threw on the blazer. The look was elevated from casual to smart in seconds.

He says: “The linen is exceptional quality, unlike some linen shirts for men that feel stiff and scratchy. The fabric is light and soft and feels like a breath of fresh air when you’re wearing it. I also liked the cut of the blazer, it fit well.”

Look #2 – Date Night

Wearing: Saint Martin linen knit polo shirt in Lovina beach black; Casablanca summer chino in French grey

As busy working parents we prioritise regular date nights. Our favourite spot is Dempsey Cookhouse & Bar. My husband’s outfit of the knit polo shirt and French grey chinos looked just right for the venue. And despite rushing from work, there were no sweat patches in sight! Sitting at the bar in the early evening with a Negroni in hand was the perfect way to unwind and chat about our day.

He says: “The chinos are an easy, relaxed style, and pairing them with the knit polo took me seamlessly from the office to dinner. You would expect a knit to feel heavy in this climate, but as this one is knitted in linen, I was surprised at how light and comfortable it was!”

Look #3 – Relaxing at home and boat party

Wearing: Martinique round neck t-shirt in black and white stripe; Rio oyster white linen shorts

The weekends are made for chilling at home with the kids and heading for dinner with friends after sundown. This outfit was perfect for lounging poolside by day and on a yacht by night! We simply accesorised with a scarf and hat – ahoy, Captain!

He says: “The t-shirt is cut well, with a slim fit and good length. I could see myself wearing this t-shirt on regular rotation. The shorts are easy to match with almost everything in my wardrobe.”

The verdict: He loves it!

As the capsule collection contains a jacket, t-shirt options, a pair of chinos and shorts, and a few linen shirts for men, it’s a no-brainer! The fact that everything matches means that there is truly no room for error. The breathable fabrics made negotiating hot days out and about easy. The blazer was the perfect solution for cold air-conditioning. Club 826 scored the husband seal of approval!
