Where to go for a vajacial?

4th August 2020 by Anthia Chng 3 Min Read

Living in sunny Singapore means most of us are often in summer wear all-year-round. Sleeveless shirts, singlets and shorts are a common sight here, as are bare legs and arms! While hair removal is ultimately a personal choice, some of us may feel more comfortable being fuzz-free. From hair removal treatments like IPL and waxing to airbrush tanning and the lesser-known vajacial, which is essentially a facial for the vulva, this Orchard beauty salon is a one-stop shop where you can get all your body grooming needs sorted.

Waxing, IPL and more

Wax Factor is a new hair removal salon and tanning studio conveniently located in Orchard Central. Well kept and tidy, the cosy space has a small waiting area with a lineup of products displayed on a shelf – perfect for you to explore before or after your appointment.

Having a range of treatments to choose from means you can get everything done here, conveniently and quickly without a fuss. For body hair removal, Wax Factor uses hard and soft wax, depending on the area of treatment and skin sensitivity. For IPL (intense pulse light) treatments, the salon uses a machine imported from Europe, which features an advanced cooling system that makes each session quick and pain-free. IPL is used for both hair removal and skin rejuvenation treatments, such as the vulva skincare treatment ($128), which I tried.

Vajacial: a facial, but for your vulva!

Also known as bikini whitening, the 45-minute vulva care treatment cleanses, exfoliates and moisturises your intimates. Think of it as a facial, but for your nether regions.

I usually get my Brazilian area sugared as I personally prefer the effects it has compared to waxing. But I’d never tried a vajacial before, so I was intrigued and a little nervous. Firstly, my therapist did a quick round of waxing and plucking to get rid of any leftover hair. Then came a series of steps you’d expect from a regular facial: cleansing, toning and exfoliation. The products are chosen for their gentle formulas and suitability for the sensitive intimate areas, so you don’t have to worry about any scary side effects or reactions. An IPL machine is used to brightened the vulva, which has the tendency of being darker than the surrounding skin due to hormonal changes. So far, so good!

A gentle scrub is applied and wiped off, followed by a collagen-enhancing serum to tighten and moisturise the area. The session rounds up with a sheet mask specially tailored for the vulva, to hydrate, firm and brighten.

At the end of the vajacial, I definitely felt that the area is much cleaner and more moisturised. As the treatment was comfortable and painless, I even managed to sneak in a quick nap in between. To maximise the brightening effects, you’ll need a series of sessions. Do note that you should go for your waxing or sugaring session one week before booking in.

Airbrush tanning

Cheat a bronzy glow without spending hours under the sun with the airbrush tanning service ($70) at Wax Factor. The salon uses Sjolie, a well-known spray tan brand made in California. The cruelty-free tanners are made with naturally derived ingredients, and are formulated without parabens or fragrances. The tan is airbrushed with a spray for an even tone across the body, and lasts for around 10 to 12 days. Want to prolong the effects? The salon stocks a UV-protected aftercare body lotion to help you maintain your glow at home and extend your tan by three to five days.

Don’t miss…

Until 15 September, enjoy 55 percent off all waxing services and $55 off à la carte IPL services. Quote “EXPAT LIVING” when you’re booking to redeem this offer!
