Expat Living’s Jacqui Young and family explore a popular and exciting obstacle course in Singapore’s East. Check it out next time you are looking for things to do with kids!
–Our kids have completed the courses at Forest Adventure Singapore at Bedok Reservoir many times in the past for friends’ birthday parties, but I hadn’t thought of it before as an adventure for the whole family – so, off we went!
This wonderful attraction has been in business for 10 years now. Singapore’s first and only treetop obstacle course recently reopened after a six-month overhaul, returning with an newly expanded facility of four different heights and 63 crossings in three age-appropriate courses. Each course is based on a height restriction. With a mix of ages and heights in our family, we had different courses to choose from.
Kids Course
Taking around one hour to complete and with two awesome zip lines, the Kids Course is designed for children aged 5 to 10 years. Children are generally expected to be unaccompanied if they are over seven years old, but you or a buddy over 14 years must accompany your child if they’re under this age. If you’re planning to accompany your child you must remember to make a booking too. Instructors are on the course to help you along for the first few crossings, if required, but they will not follow your child through the entire course.
Minimum height: 1.1m (3.5ft)
Age: Children below 7 years must be accompanied by a participant aged 14 or above.
Price: $36 per child, $25 per accompanying adult (inclusive of the Big Zip). Pay $134 for four children on the Kids Course in a single transaction and save $10.
Junior Course
The next step up is the Junior Course, set 6.3 metres above the ground and comprising one loop from the Kids Course and one loop from the Grand Course. It’s the perfect transition for kids who may no longer be challenged by the easier option but who are not yet ready for the challenges of the Grand Course. Children under 10 will need someone over the age of 14 to join them. This course has 26 awesome obstacles and two zip great lines.
Minimum height: 1.35m (4.4ft)
Age: Children below 10 years must be accompanied by a participant aged 14 and above.
Price: $39 per child, $25 per accompanying adult (inclusive of the Big Zip). Pay $146 for four people on the Junior Course in a single booking and save $10.
Grand Course
We found the Grand Course tough but exhilarating – such an amazing experience, and we were certainly challenged. We had 44 different obstacles to get through, including three giant zip lines over the reservoir. It took us 2.5 hours to complete and was so much fun – think higher platforms, longer crossings, and lots of new challenges, including an impressive Tarzan swing for the really adventurous types (and which can be bypassed for those like me who are not!).
Minimum height: 1.5m (4.9ft)
Age: Children below 12 years must be accompanied by a participant aged 14 and above.
Price: $50 per person, $46 for tertiary students (weekdays only). Pay $190 for four people on the Grand Course in a single booking and save $10. Pay $39 per person on Tuesdays (except public holidays).
If you have any energy left after all this, ticket holders who satisfy the weight and height requirements can try the amazing 300-metre zip line, which starts from a 14-metre platform and flies entirely over the water.
Minimum weight: 50kg
Minimum height: 1.4m (4.9ft)
In all, we really loved this morning of obstacles and activities, and we felt really challenged along the way. It was super fun to do it as a family and, even though we were on different courses and stages at various times, we were never too far apart. Thoroughly recommended for a family day out!
