Are you making these grooming mistakes?
ADONIS is the Head Barber at Jermyn Street; he shares the top grooming blunders men make – and how to fix them! As a barber, I’ve seen it all – great cuts, bad trims and everything in between. While every man’s grooming routine is personal, there are a few common mistakes that can easily be avoided. Here are some of the top grooming missteps I see in the shop, especially when it comes to hair and beard care.
#1 Skipping regular haircuts
One of the most common mistakes is neglecting regular trims. Hair grows at different rates for everyone, but skipping cuts can lead to split ends and an unkempt appearance. Follow your barber’s recommendation based on your hair type and style. For example, for a skin fade, we recommend a trim every two weeks to keep the fade fresh, while longer hair benefits from a cut every four to six weeks to keep your style fresh and prevent damage. Even if you’re growing out your hair, regular trims help maintain its shape.
#2 Over-using hair products
Men often think more product equals better results. However, over-applying products like pomades, gels or wax can weigh hair down, make it greasy or cause build-up on the scalp. Use a small amount and work it evenly through your hair. A good rule of thumb: start with less, and you can always add more.
#3 Neglecting the beard
A beard requires maintenance, too. Don’t just let it grow wild! Regular trimming, shaping and proper care with beard oils or balms can keep your beard soft and healthy. Avoid the “I’ll just let it grow” approach without attention – it can look patchy or uneven.
#4 Ignoring scalp health
A healthy scalp is the foundation of healthy hair. Many men forget that proper scalp care – like using the right shampoo and conditioner – can make a world of difference. Don’t just focus on the hair; nourish the scalp with regular exfoliation and the right products for your hair type.
#5 Using the wrong tools
Invest in the right grooming tools. Low-quality razors or clippers can cause irritation, nicks and uneven cuts. A goodquality razor and trimmer can make a huge difference in achieving that sharp, clean look. The key to great grooming is consistency, care and knowing what works best for your hair and beard. Regular visits to your barber for advice and adjustments can help keep you looking sharp and feeling confident.

Non-invasive skin tightening
Want firmer, tighter skin without surgery or needles? 10Therma is a new noninvasive treatment now available at Cutis Medical Laser Clinics. Designed to lift, tighten and rejuvenate your skin using advanced radiofrequency (RF) energy, it works by delivering thermal energy into the dermis at temperatures of 40 to 60°C to stimulate collagen production, helping to refine texture, smooth wrinkles and enhance elasticity. Suitable to be used on the face, neck and body areas, the treatment delivers a tightening effect you can feel straight away, though the real transformation happens over the next two to three months as new collagen forms. Nothing ordinary about this skin solution
Say hello to The Ordinary’s GF 15% Solution, the brand’s first-ever growth factor serum. Unlike traditional growth factors, which can be pricey to produce, The Ordinary takes a different approach with plant-based growth serums that are both effective and affordable. This powerhouse formula packs a 15 percent concentration of three key growth factors – EGF, IGF and TGF – all working together to support your skin’s natural repair process, boost collagen, improve elasticity and smooth fine lines.
Get gorgeous voluminous locks!
Want big volume without the damage? K18’s AstroLift Reparative Volume Spray, a lightweight, buildable reparative volume spray, lands in Singapore this month. It’s powered by the brand’s patented peptide that helps to repair damaged hair – especially fine, fragile and ageing hair – while delivering volume that lasts up to two days. It’s formulated to help minimise heat damage too and is humidity-resistant, so your volume stays intact even in Singapore’s tropical weather.
