Pre-Nursery & Pre-Prep at Brighton College
Founded: 2020
Dates: August to July
Ages: 18 months to 18 years
Size: 550 pupils
Curriculum: Early Years Foundation Stage, English National Curriculum, IGCSE, A-Levels
Preschool review: Lauren Wyper and Neil Halliday, British; Violet (5) and Callum (3) (Singapore)
We’ve been living in Singapore for nearly 13 years. Violet started last year at Brighton College (Singapore) in Reception and is now in Year 1. Callum started Nursery at the beginning of this school year.
We were already familiar with the Brighton College family of schools – Lauren’s sister is Head of Prep at Brighton College (Bangkok) and her teenage sons are great ambassadors for the school’s ethos. The sense of shared values across the Brighton schools gave us a lot of confidence. When we visited the preschool in Singapore, it felt right straightaway. The atmosphere was welcoming and calm, and the focus on kindness, confidence and happiness resonated with us. We wanted a school where our children would feel safe, known and supported – Brighton delivered that from day one.
Our experience at the school has been warm and positive. The kids both settled so quickly and are always happy and excited to go to school. The teachers are patient and genuinely know each child as an individual. There’s a lovely balance between learning through play, building confidence and independence, and gently introducing structure in a way that feels age-appropriate and fun.
We also really value the range of CCAs available, even for younger children, from sports and movement to music and creative activities. The facilities are excellent and thoughtfully designed for little ones. What we love most is the small school feeling – it’s calm, personal and very family-oriented.
We would absolutely recommend Brighton College (Singapore) to families looking for a nurturing, friendly environment with a strong sense of community. It feels like a place where children can simply be curious, playful and confident, while being gently supported as they grow.

Kinderland Academy & Preschools in Singapore
Founded: 1978
Dates: January to December (year-round enrolment)
Ages: From 2 months to 6 years
Size: 80 centres with more than 20,000 students regionally
Curriculum: Kinderland’s music-infused curriculum is built around the K.I.N.D.E.R. multidisciplinary lands (Kineticland, Intelliland, Natureland, Digiland, EQ-land, cReativeland). Children at Kinderland Academy @ Yio Chu Kang can participate in the first and only preschool marching band in Singapore.
Preschool review: Iris Lau and Justin Ma, American; Aster (3) and Bellis (1)
We have been living in Singapore for three years. Aster has been at Kinderland for two years and Bellis has been attending for one year.
We learned about this preschool while reviewing all options in the area. The convenient location, ability to enrol both our children and the school’s energetic atmosphere led us to send our children here.
Our experience at Kinderland has been extremely positive. A crucial factor for us was the emphasis on communication. Between drop-off, pick-up, app conversations, regular parent-teacher meetings and school events, we were never left wondering how our children were doing.
The educators have also been a highlight of our experience. Through our conversations, it’s clear that they are caring and patient. They understand the nuances of our children’s personalities. This allows them to more effectively guide Aster and Bellis through their development.
We’ve not had any concerns about our children’s wellbeing as they have always enjoyed their day at Kinderland.
We found that the focus on hands-on learning, confidence building and open communication resonated with what we cared about. We would recommend Kinderland preschools in Singapore to other families as well.

Adventure Tree Preschools in Singapore
Founded: 2020
Dates: January to December, year-round enrolment
Ages: 2 months to 6 years
Size: 150 to 200 students
Curriculum: Play-based that progresses to Inquiry-based curriculum
Preschool review: Sumin and Ben, New Zealanders; Vera (7), Ria (5) and Sylvie (2)
Ria currently attends Adventure Tree Katong and has been there since 2025. Vera attended the preschool previously and we plan for Sylvie to join, too.
We live right across from the preschool and noticed that the teachers greet each child as they arrive every morning. Parents also stick around after drop-offs to chat. It seemed to be such a warm and lovely community.
Despite Vera joining as a newcomer in K2, everyone was so welcoming to our family, and she settled in very quickly. Adventure Tree places a lot of importance on outdoor time. Ria has water play and outdoor play three times a week at the outdoor play area, plus a weekly nature walk.
There’s also an emphasis on arts and creativity. When Vera was in K2, her class spent a few weeks studying famous artists, their works and the styles they pioneered. She still talks about this module. The kids take part in Ma Petite Cuisine weekly, where they explore cookery and bring home the treats they’ve made.
There’s a great selection of enrichment classes that include dance, yoga and music. The end-of-year concert is a real spectacle that both the kids and parents love. Our girls rave about the school lunches, too!
We love how diverse and multicultural the preschool is. There’s a wall displaying photos of each child from PG to K2, accompanied by flags identifying their parents’ nationality. We’ve met an array of parents through the preschool, some of whom have since become good friends.
We recommend Adventure Tree to parents looking for a preschool in Singapore with both a strong academic focus, as well as a focus on creativity and exploration.

Kindergarten at Chatsworth International School
Founded: 1995
Dates: August to June
Ages: From 3 years
Size: Approx. 800 students
Curriculum: IB (PYP, MYP, DP)
Kindergarten review: Chiaki and Toya Tezuka, Japanese; Toki (8), Anna (6) and Tomi (2)
Our family has been living in Singapore since December 2023; Toki and Anna have been attending kindergarten in Singapore at Chatsworth since January 2024. We’re also considering enrolling Tomi in the future.
We were deeply drawn to the kindergarten’s warm atmosphere. What impressed us most was the sense that the teachers know each child by name and face. This made us feel confident that our children would be cared for as individuals and encouraged to grow in a supportive environment.
When Toki and Anna started kindergarten in Singapore, they could hardly understand any English. The EAL support has helped them tremendously. They’re now able to learn and play alongside native speakers. We believe that this growth is made possible by the warm, supportive and close-knit environment at Chatsworth.
When Toki learned about the human body at kindergarten, he surprised us by explaining the digestive and circulatory systems in both Japanese and English. He also began reminding us to turn off the lights after learning about environmental issues. This shows how his learning is shaping his values and behaviour.
Anna is also learning through inquiry-based themes such as Light. It’s clear that the children are also receiving a strong and meaningful education.
There are many events that allow the children to experience different cultures and festivals from around the world. The annual Book Week, held around the end of January, is a highlight – Chatsworth kindergarten creates a wonderful atmosphere where children, teachers, and parents come together to enjoy books as a community.
We believe Chatsworth is a wonderful school for families who are looking for a friendly community where children are seen as individuals, can learn with confidence, and grow in a nurturing, natural setting.

The Grange International Preschool in Singapore
Founded: 2018
Dates: January to December
Ages: From 3 years
Size: 186 students (Preschool & Primary)
Curriculum: International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC)
Preschool review: Kosuke and Megumi Watanabe, Japanese; Ritsu (6) and Jiei (5)
Kosuke has been in Singapore since June 2025 for work while Megumi and the children moved to Singapore in July 2025. Both children have been studying at The Grange International Preschool since just after our move here. Ritsu flew to Singapore on a Saturday, the last day of her first semester in Japanese school. She began at TGIP two days later, without even knowing that it’s an English-based international preschool in Singapore!
When we were looking for preschools in Singapore, there were two things that were important for us: small class sizes and a variety of nationalities. TGIP has both, with a curriculum and teachers who are trustworthy.
Although our first contact with TGIP was done online from Japan, the administrator answered our inquiries thoroughly and kindly, removing our anxiety. We visited the campus in July 2025 and found that it was surrounded by nature, was very clean and had a spacious field. We also saw artworks by students and had the feeling that students spend their time vividly at the school.
Our kids had zero English when we came to Singapore. They’re still catching up day by day, but they never come home with complaints about preschool life. Every time they hop off the school bus, they say, “Daddy! Mummy! It was sooooooo fun today as well!”
We can see what our kids have done each day on the Class Dojo app. Face to face feedback is done at the end of each semester; it’s very detailed and fruitful as we can feel the teachers observe our kids closely.
If you want your kids to spend their time in a good balance of study and other activities, The Grange International Preschool in Singapore is the first choice!

Preschool at Holland International School
Founded: 1920
Dates: August to June
Ages: From 18 months
Size: Approx. 270 students
Curriculum: English stream – British National Curriculum, Dutch stream – Dutch National Curriculum, IEYC, IPC
Preschool review: Martha Menchaca and Matthew Hipple, Mexican and American; Matthew, Diego, Lucia and Isabela
We’ve been living in Singapore for almost a year; our three oldest children joined HIS shortly after our arrival. Matthew and Diego are enrolled in primary school while Lucia attends preschool.
We discovered HIS through recommendations. It reminded us of the boys’ public Catholic school on the Belgian coast – a strong curriculum, nurturing approach and involved community.
From our first visit, the school felt welcoming and familial. Its small size fosters a sense of community. Small class sizes allow for meaningful engagement and tailored support, and teachers engage with each child personally.
We enjoy how the International Primary Curriculum promotes project-based, hands-on learning. CCAs such as dance, Mandarin, music, art, chess, robotics and sports provide well-rounded enrichment. HIS is also open to new ideas on this front; the new chess CCA is thanks to the administration’s openness to following up on a lead from a Chess camp we found out in town. The Learning Centre’s in-house support and on-site therapies are of great help, reflecting a commitment to holistic student wellbeing. We also appreciate how our children can learn in English while progressively building Dutch language skills in a supportive, inclusive setting.
The school operates an open-door policy, encouraging parents to visit, participate, volunteer and be actively involved in their child’s learning and development. It has made a significant difference in accelerating our children’s learning while improving their sense of confidence and security. We would recommend HIS without hesitation to other families seeking a nurturing, high-quality, personalised and community-focused international education.

Kindergarten at North London Collegiate School (Singapore)
Founded: 2020
Dates: August to June
Ages: From 3 to 18 years
Size: 1,450
Curriculum: Bespoke curriculum based on NLCS (UK), IBDP
Kindergarten review: Avni and Arpit Mathur, Australian; Avneya (10) and Ameya (5)
When we were searching for schools with academic rigour and integrated learning, our friends recommended NLCS (Singapore). Avneya has been going there since August 2024 and is currently in Grade 5. Ameya joined the kindergarten in August 2025 and is in KG2.
We’ve had a very positive experience and are happy with our decision to send both children to NLCS (Singapore). The curriculum is rigorous but enriching – and carefully crafted to bring joy to learning, which is essential in the formative years. It’s very satisfying to see how a particular topic is chosen for a term and all learning pertaining to each subject is woven around this central theme.
The teachers are dedicated and supportive of individual needs. The emphasis on pastoral care allows students to thrive both academically and personally.
The school has a wide range of options for CCAs, supported by excellent facilities and coaching. Each term, students get to pick four to engage and experience. Avneya is into swimming, soccer, mathematics, chess and comic illustrations. Ameya is being exposed to a plethora of sports and activities in kindergarten, which is beneficial for him to decide what he enjoys doing the most.
Diversity is celebrated in the school. Our boys have learnt to appreciate different viewpoints, cultures and traditions in a way that feels meaningful and respectful.
If you want a well-grounded and holistic education for your child, you should certainly consider NLCS kindergarten in Singapore.

Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten at International Community School (Singapore)
Founded: 1993
Dates: August to June
Ages: From 4 years
Size: 340+ students
Curriculum: American
Kindergarten review: Madi and Noah, American; Palmer (6), Conrad (4) and Easton (2)
We have been in Singapore for one year and Palmer has been attending Kindergarten in Singapore at ICS since we arrived. Conrad will join her next year.
Our experience at ICS has been a highlight of our time in Singapore so far. As a family that moved across the world and was navigating a lot of transition, we appreciate the way the school supports internationally mobile families. There was an understanding that kids arrive with different backgrounds, experiences and timelines. That flexibility and empathy mattered to us. Ultimately, this kindergarten in Singapore felt like a place where our daughter could grow with our experience abroad.
The teachers invest deeply in the whole experience and that shows up in the way our child talks about school, their friendships and what they’re learning. It’s reassuring to know they’re in an environment that reinforces strong Christian values while also embracing the diversity of a global community.
When we were deciding where to enrol our daughter, we wanted a kindergarten in Singapore that aligned with our family’s values and offered stability during a season of big change. ICS stood out for its strong emphasis on character, kindness and community, alongside a solid educational foundation.
We would absolutely recommend ICS to other families, especially those relocating to Singapore. The kindergarten offers a place where families are welcomed, children are supported, and relationships truly matter.
That sense of belonging and consistency is invaluable, and it’s something we’re deeply grateful for.
We deeply cherish this welcoming, biblically grounded community that embraces diversity, nurtures character and inspires excellence. ICS makes each day joyful and every milestone meaningful for our family with gratitude and trust.

Early Years at Swiss School in Singapore
Founded: 1967
Dates: August to June
Ages: From 2 to 12 years
Size: 250 students
Curriculum: Swiss Curricula – German Stream, Canton of Zug; French Stream – Canton of Valais
Preschool review: Deborah and Julien Lota, French; Nunziu (4) and Chjara (2)
We have been living in Singapore for six years. Swiss School was recommended by friends, a Swiss-German family whose four children attend the school. We chose this preschool in Singapore for its French programme and for the environment, which feels like a small green haven surrounded by nature. We also appreciate that it’s not a large structure, which feels more reassuring for our young children and for us as parents.
Nunziu has been in KG1 French stream at the Swiss School since August 2025. He has lessons in French with a Swiss teacher in the morning, including swimming lessons and sports. In the afternoon, he has ECAs in English such as Kids Yoga, Lego Engineering and When Art Meets Science.
Chjara has been in Little Tots since October 2025. She has Circle Time, Water Play and activities in English in the morning, and in the afternoon, she is with a French teacher who plays guitar and music with the kids and reads books.
All the teachers and assistants are very kind and smiling all the time. The teaching approach at the Swiss School follows each child’s pace, ensuring confidence. Our children are happy to go to school every morning.
The school is next to the Swiss Club, which offers an ideal environment for both parents and children after school – we gather almost daily to swim or go to the playground there.
For us, the Swiss School represents a way of life. It combines quality education with a close community, a green and active environment, and a family-friendly atmosphere that makes daily life easier, healthier and more enjoyable for both children and parents.

Kindergarten at Overseas Family School
Founded: 1991
Dates: August to June
Ages: From 2 years
Size: 2,500 students
Curriculum: IEYC, IPC, IGCSE, IB (MYP, DP)
Kindergarten review: Margarita and Haris Michaels, Australian; Nikola (12), Zoe (9) and Peta (4)
We arrived in Singapore in July 2025 and all three girls started at OFS the next month. Nikola is in Grade 6, Zoe is in Grade 4 and Peta is in K1.
We’re very pleased with how quickly our girls have settled into OFS. The teachers have been wonderful in assisting the girls with all their needs. Peta, especially coming from a daycare setting, has adapted and learnt so much in the short time she has been attending this kindergarten in Singapore.
The school community and everyone’s warm, welcoming nature has been very heartwarming for us all.
We heard about OFS from a friend whose children also attend the school. This prompted us to book a Zoom call. We were very impressed by the school facilities, sports programme, diverse language opportunities and the ability to have all three girls on one campus.
The way the school has taken in the girls and made them so comfortable so quickly is a big draw for other families looking to have their children settle so quickly. We are very pleased with choosing OFS and absolutely recommend the school to other families.

St. Joseph’s Institution International Preschool
Founded: 2024
Dates: January to December
Ages: 3 to 6 years
Size: 96 to 100 students
Curriculum: English-Chinese Immersion Programme, Numeracy, Pastoral Care, Outdoor Learning, The Virtues Project
Preschool review: Denise Mosbergen and Mark O’Hanlon, Singapore citizen and British; Killian (6)
Killian started in K1 at St. Joseph’s Institution International Preschool in January 2025. He’s currently in K2. We live a bus stop away from the preschool and when we were deciding the next educational step for Killian, it was open for 2025 applications. After a three-day trial that gave us firsthand experience, it was an easy decision to join this preschool in Singapore.
We wanted to introduce Killian to a bilingual programme and prepare him for local primary school; SJI International Preschool has met these needs.
The preschool has an outdoor natural space with a waterplay zone, sandpit and a farm. Learning is holistic, allowing the children to learn more about sustainable farming, animals and nature. The educators are patient and kind, and you can see that they genuinely love what they do. The administrative staff have been friendly and accommodating. We often get the chance to participate in our child’s learning experiences. Whether it’s an occasional celebration or an update session, we feel very much a part of the school family.
The year of this preschool in Singapore follows the Ministry of Education. There’s also the flexibility that comes with it being an ECDA-licensed centre – we can drop Killian off early or pick him up a little later on the rare occasion that we ever need to.
We highly recommend SJI International Preschool for its strong educational and nurturing values. Your family will also be part of the greater Lasallian Catholic community of schools. Regardless of your family’s faith, the school’s first focus is always on the child’s developmental growth and preparing them for the next phase in their educational journey.

Dulwich College Kindergarten School (DUCKS) in Singapore
Founded: 2014
Dates: August to June
Ages: From 2 years
Size: 2,900 students
Curriculum: Enhanced English National Curriculum, IGCSE, IB (DP, CP)
Kindergarten review: Liz and Tom Vickerton, Chinese-American and British; Max (8) and Sam (6)
We moved from Hong Kong to Singapore in September 2022 on very short notice, so we didn’t have a lot of time to research many kindergartens in Singapore. A close friend who had moved 18 months before us has two children at Dulwich College (Singapore) and spoke highly of it. We applied based on her strong recommendation.
Sam is currently in Year 1 at DUCKS and this is his fourth year; he started in Toddlers. Max has moved on to the Junior School after spending Years 1 and 2 in DUCKS.
We love that the children have access to all the facilities across the wider campus but are nurtured within their own private spaces in the kindergarten.
The layout of the DUCKS classrooms is bright and welcoming. The curriculum of this international kindergarten in Singapore strikes a good balance between play-based and traditional classroom learning. The Mandarin dual-language programme is solid and the Mandarin teachers are heavily involved in the curriculum planning. There is ample additional educational needs support, specifically in phonics and writing. The teachers also are proactive in identifying those students that need the extra help.
The teachers and heads of schools are all approachable and communicative. Liz has been active as a class representative and parent volunteer since we joined. We have also joined Friends of Dulwich, the parent association – there are many opportunities for parents to be involved at the school.
We would absolutely recommend the Dulwich College kindergarten in Singapore. It’s a wonderful nurturing environment with passionate teachers and staff. It’s a big school but the children really benefit from having access to the stunning facilities the College has to offer. There’s the feeling of being protected and cared for in a smaller tight-knit community that sits inside the wider campus.

Kindergarten at UWC South East Asia
Founded: 1971 (UWCSEA Dover); 2008 (UWCSEA East)
Dates: August to June
Ages: 4 to 18 years
Size: 3,137 students (Dover); 2,894 students (East)
Curriculum: UWCSEA concept based curriculum, UWCSEA Grade 9/10 Programme, IBDP
Kindergarten review: Yuko Watanabe and Antonius Sulimro, Japanese and Indonesian; Noa (5)
We have been living in Singapore for seven years. Noa has been attending UWCSEA Dover since the 2024/25 academic year. She started in K1 and is now in K2.
We have several friends whose children attend the school, and we took a campus tour in 2023. One aspect we considered was a safe environment for our child to explore her curiosity and knowledge.
Our experience with the school has been nothing short of remarkable. It puts a strong emphasis on promoting learning through curiosity. The teachers encourage students to find different approaches to arrive at the desired outcome. We can see how the teachers from Noa’s classes have also focused on developing the students’ EQ. Due to the teachers’ teaching and guidance, we’re able to witness our daughter’s staggering growth within a short period of time.
UWCSEA also provides opportunities that integrate older and younger grades together, from K through to Grade 12. We feel this allows older students the chance to foster self-confidence in explaining the knowledge that they have learned to others. Likewise, it provides an environment for younger students to have a role model to look up to.
As parents, we feel that the school is receptive to receiving feedback and opinion. We also appreciate the extensive range of opportunities for parental involvement, from the classroom level to whole-school initiatives.
We recommend UWCSEA to parents who are looking at more than the educational aspect for their child. Take a campus tour to glimpse the educational journey your child will experience at the school.

Early Learning Village at Stamford American International School
Founded: 2009
Dates: August to June
Ages: From 18 months
Size: 3,000 students
Curriculum: IB, AP, BTEC Diploma
Kindergarten review: Theresia Mmasi and Daniel Mira Salama, Tanzanian and Spanish; Dante (4) and Salma (3)
We have been living in Singapore for three years, and Dante has been attending the Early Learning Village at Stamford American International School since August 2025.
Our experience at Stamford American has been wonderful. It’s genuinely fun to hear Dante come home talking about the music he’s been exposed to in kindergarten, alongside learning the violin through the Suzuki programme. At the same time, he’s just as supported in sports and physical play. That everyday balance between creativity, movement and learning has really stood out for us.
The ELV campus – especially the swimming pool, multiple playgrounds and the library – often features in Dante’s after-school stories. Being fully dedicated to early learning, it offers a warm and welcoming environment for young children.
The school’s community is wonderfully diverse, which is something we value deeply for our child. Ultimately, what matters most to us is that Dante is in a supportive space where he feels safe, comfortable and free to express himself fully.
We learned about the school through friends and an online search. One of the key reasons we chose Stamford American was that Spanish is integrated into the daily curriculum, rather than offered as an extracurricular activity. Later, we realised Dante’s Spanish was above average given his exposure to it at home, so we switched him to Mandarin. This is even better since none of us can teach him that!
In addition, the bus service allows for a manageable drop-off and pick-up schedule, which has been a great practical support for us.
If you’re looking for a school that truly opens the world to your child – academically, culturally and emotionally – this is an excellent choice!

EtonHouse International Preschools in Singapore
Founded: 2020
Dates: January to December, year-round enrolment
Ages: 2 months to 6 years
Size: 150 to 200 students
Curriculum: Play-based that progresses to Inquiry-based curriculum
Preschool review: Frances and Peter Farnsworth, British; Madison (8) and Georgiana (5)
We have been living in Singapore for 13 years. Georgiana is attending EtonHouse Broadrick Preschool in K1 Otters. Madison is also at Broadrick, in Y3.
We first heard about EtonHouse preschool from other families. We were drawn in by the warmth and down-to-earth atmosphere we encountered. The combination of academic thoughtfulness and the evident sense of belonging among the school community made our decision straightforward.
Our experience at the school has been overwhelmingly positive. We wanted a school that would know and nurture our child as a whole person, and EtonHouse does exactly that. The student-centric approach means our child is seen as an individual. The passionate, approachable teaching staff create an environment where learning feels enjoyable. We’ve watched both our children blossom in this caring and encouraging environment.
The small school size is one of its greatest strengths – it fosters real connections between children, teachers and families. The rich teacher-to-student ratio means every child receives a truly individualised experience.
With the school’s IB curriculum and Reggio Emilia-inspired approach, we can see in our children beautiful creativity and curiosity in learning every day. The curriculum is further enriched by an immersive dual-language English-Mandarin programme that begins from a young age and continues throughout.
The CCA offerings are also surprisingly vast for a school of this size. It spans sports, performing arts, music, drama, and ICT, giving children the opportunity to explore a wide range of interests and talents beyond the classroom. The outdoor spaces are lovely, providing children with the room to play, explore and simply be kids.
The Parent Student Association organises fantastic events throughout the year. Initiatives by the school community such as school runs also bring parents and children together in a fun way.
If you’re looking for a school that’s warm, diverse, ambitious for its students, and deeply community-driven, we absolutely recommend EtonHouse International Preschool.

Nursery at Tanglin Trust School
Founded: 1925
Dates: August to July
Ages: From 3 years
Size: 2,800 students
Curriculum: Enhanced British National Curriculum with an international perspective, A-Levels, IBDP
Nursery review: Hilary and Magnus Hansen, Scottish and Norwegian; Charlotte (3.5) and Sophia (21 months)
Charlotte has been attending Tanglin since August 2025 and it’s our intention that Sophia will join when she is old enough.
We love that despite being a huge campus, the nursery and infant school feels very cosy and nurturing. There’s a large playground with all sorts of equipment and bikes, together with a fantastic library.
The classrooms are well laid out with a constant rotation of stimulating activities. We love that Charlotte gets Mandarin, music, cooking and PE lessons each week, along with balance bike sessions and Forest School visits, which are her absolute favourites. There’s a huge focus on sustainability and wellbeing in the activities provided.
Overall, Tanglin’s curriculum picks out the best aspects of several globally recognised teaching methods, focusing on encouraging curiosity in children.
The quality of teaching and support staff is excellent, as backed up by the school’s recent Outstanding rating in its most recent BSO inspection.
The environment is very caring and nurturing. There’s a huge diversity of nationalities in the classes, which we like, given how multicultural Singapore is. It’s a very personal choice, but for us, Tanglin was the standout choice based on feedback from other parents, the school’s educational offering at all stages, the incredible facilities and the overall feel of the school. We like that in later years, there’s flexibility to follow both UK and international IB pathways.
We’re delighted with all aspects of what Tanglin has provided to date, including the quality of education and the calm, nurturing environment. Seeing how happy Charlotte is there and how much she is developing has been wonderful.

Little Skittles International Preschool
Founded: 2017
Dates: January to December, year-round enrolment
Ages: 18 months to 6 years
Size: Approximately 90 students
Curriculum: Play-based, inquiry-led, bilingual curriculum grounded in the Pedagogy of Play
Preschool review: Bernie and Lucas Watt, Singaporean and Australian; Joshua (5) and Sienna (2)
We were both in Hong Kong between 2016 to 2020; Lucas has lived in Singapore from 2013 to 2016, then 2020 to present. Both Joshua and Sienna are currently in Little Skittles – Joshua since 2023; Sienna started at 18 months.
A very close family friend spoke highly of Little Skittles. Many of the staff’s children were also attending the preschool, which was an extra assurance that it has a safe and nurturing environment. The decision to enrol Sienna was easy – she constantly wanted to accompany her brother into the school at drop-offs, even though she was too young to be enrolled then!
We’re very impressed at how the preschool managed to ease both our children in quickly. We attribute this to the genuine warmth and care from the teachers. They have a unique way of making every child and parent feel seen, while being receptive and professional.
Little Skittles has both outdoor and indoor facilities; different languages are taught, along with book reading, Geography and Maths. They’re always finding new ways to innovate, such as opening after-school activities including Tae Kwon Do, Fitness, Robotics, Gymnastics and Music classes, which Joshua has really enjoyed. The school also organises many different in-school activities and excursions.
Throughout the year, they share pictures and updates of our child’s progress through the school app, plus a parent-teacher meeting at the end of every semester. There are also many opportunities for parents to be involved via in-class activities and school events, creating special family moments for us. Likewise, the parents we have met are extremely inclusive, friendly and multicultural.
Most importantly, our kids are excited to put on their school uniform daily. Knowing that our children are learning and playing well, and creating meaningful relationships allows us to focus on our full-time jobs in the day.

Both of us grew up in Singapore in the late 1990s. Elizabeth is a CIS alumna – she started in Grade 2 in 1998 and continued through to graduation.
We wanted to provide Owen with the same high-quality international schooling experience, and he started at CIS in Nursery three years ago. We’re also keen to explore the new Husky Puppy programme with Olive, before she enrols in Nursery at 18 months.
It’s remarkable to see how much the school has grown since our time there, with its expanded facilities, increased student population and the wide variety of ECAs offered.
From the outset, we were impressed by the excellent facilities in the Early Years wing. The dedicated spaces, such as the Outdoor Discovery Centre (ODC), classrooms, interactive learning pods and an age-appropriate swimming pool were key factors in our decision to enrol Owen in Kindergarten. The ODC has proven to be an invaluable part of his learning journey – it’s often mentioned as his favourite part of his day at school.
The school’s balanced approach to learning thoughtfully integrates both academic development and play, ensuring a well-rounded early years’ experience.
The support from the teachers and the personalised approach to pastoral care have been highlights for us. Each parent-teacher meeting is tailored to address Owen’s individual needs, with teachers taking the time to understand his unique traits and personality. The teachers Owen has had so far have been proactive in monitoring his progress, keeping us informed at every step and collaborating with us to ensure he becomes the best version of himself.
We never feel that Owen is just another student – the school has maintained its close-knit, community feel, which is something we truly value.

Early Years at Nexus International School (Singapore)
Founded: 2011
Dates: August to June
Ages: 3 to 18 years (Nursery to Year 13)
Size: 1,500 learners
Curriculum: IB, IGCSE
Preschool review: Ana Ortiz and Joe Azpurua, Colombian and Venezuelan; Elena (9), Alicia (8), Sara (7), Amanda (5), Olivia (5 months)
When we arrived in Singapore three years ago, we toured the campus of Nexus International School. We were impressed by its IB curriculum and the strong emphasis on the arts.
The school’s open learning spaces feel innovative and reflective of modern collaborative work environments, something we value for our children’s development. We were also struck by the large tree and small bamboo forest at the playground – we love that our daughters can remain connected to nature within the school environment.
Most importantly, we were welcomed with warmth and kindness and immediately felt at home.
Nexus has a reputation for having one of the strongest swimming teams among international schools in Singapore. Amanda used to be afraid of water. Thanks to the school’s year-round weekly swimming programme, she has learned how to swim and genuinely loves it.
The school community is incredibly diverse among both students and teachers; there isn’t any single dominant nationality across the classrooms that our four daughters attend. This diversity has allowed our children to learn from many cultures, which we deeply value.
The parent community is one of our favourite aspects of this preschool in Singapore. There are numerous activities: baby playdates on Fridays in the Parents’ Lounge, craft sessions, book clubs, walks and even language classes.
The school also has proper facilities for new mothers. The comfortable, private nursing room with a changing table has been invaluable when picking up my daughters with a baby.
Nexus has been the right fit for our entire family and we’re excited about the baby playgroup for when our youngest is a little older.

Preschool at International French School (Singapore)
Founded: 1967
Dates: September to early July
Ages: 3 to 18 years
Size: 2,700 students of 70 different nationalities
Curriculum: French Curriculum taught in French and English, IGCSE
Preschool review: Jennifer and Mark Dembitz, American and Swiss; Julian (11), Elyse (9) and Nora (5)
We have lived in Singapore for 15 years and all our children were born here. Elyse and Nora started at IFS in September 2025.
We had heard about IFS before but thought it would be “too French” and not diverse enough. However, its community is an incredibly diverse collection of cultures and countries. We decided that we wanted our children to have a solid French bilingual programme and felt that the Maternelle preschool programme would be a great fit for Nora.
The curriculum is rigorous in the right ways and kids are taught to be accountable for their learning and independence. There’s a mutual respect in the way they work with children, and we see this in Nora’s growing confidence and keen engagement in cultural activities. The Christmas Concert, International IFS Day, Carnaval and Dance Spectacle have been great ways to see the curriculum in action and the progress that the children are making while also getting to mingle with the other parents.
The facilities are warm and efficient without being overly posh. The classrooms and agora area of the Maternelle centre are filled with art made by the children throughout the term.
The extracurricular activities offer everything a kid could dream of – from judo and ballet to breakdancing, parkour and K-pop. IFS has been a warm, welcoming community and every interaction with parents has been intentional. The programme and communications are well thought out.
As a multicultural family, we have really enjoyed getting to know the IFS community, participating in the events and seeing our daughters thrive in their new school. We really enjoy the culture, value and clarity that have marked our experience at IFS.

Early Years at Australian International School
Founded: 1993
Dates: January to December
Ages: 2 months to 18 years
Size: Over 2,500 students
Curriculum: International Baccalaureate (IB) PYP from Preschool to Year 5, Australian Curriculum in Years 6 to 8, Cambridge IGCSE and Australian Curriculum in Years 9/10, Higher School Certificate or IBDP in Years 11/12
Preschool review: Faris and Fadhilah, Singaporean; Fayra (4)
Fayra is currently in her second year at Australian International School’s preschool. During the AIS Open House we attended, we saw Fayra immediately start to explore. We wanted a preschool that treats children as individuals, and seeing her immediately feel safe to explore made the decision easy.
We were looking for a nurturing environment where learning happens through pure play and fun – we found exactly that at AIS. Fayra is encouraged to find out who she is and build her self-confidence. Most importantly, it’s a space where feelings are respected and heard – we believe that having the space to express emotions is what will shape her into a confident, grounded adult.
We were also impressed by the world-class facilities at the Early Learning Village and the true heart of the school is the teachers. The teachers work hand in hand with parents and listen to every concern.
The amount of parent involvement is incredible, from weekend picnics to parents mingling together after school. We don’t just send our child there; we’re part of the school ourselves.
If you want a child-led environment where your child’s voice matters, this is the place. Children are truly respected and valued at AIS preschool in Singapore.

Kindergarten at Singapore American School
Founded: 1956
Dates: August to June
Ages: 3 to 18 years
Size: 4,131 students from 63 countries
Curriculum: Comprehensive liberal arts education within the daytime and after-school programmes, with open admissions
Kindergarten review: Mariana Alvarado and Bradley Monroe, Paraguayan and American; Rafaela (4), Thomas (2) and Daniel (2)
We’ve been in Singapore for seven years, and Mariana previously worked in the Singapore American School’s administration. She also attended an American school in Paraguay. Through her experience and the school’s strong reputation, we knew SAS would be the right choice for our family.
This is Rafaela’s first year in kindergarten at SAS. The environment has been welcoming, inclusive and supportive. The teachers are attentive, caring and committed to understanding each child as an individual. We are in regular communication with them, allowing us to closely follow Rafaela’s progress and feel fully supported as parents.
We’re particularly impressed by the curriculum’s emphasis on learning through curiosity, play and exploration in the early years, guided by Reggio Emilia principles that foster child-led inquiry, creativity and meaningful engagement. Rafaela especially enjoys her Move and Groove class, which helps young children develop key skills in movement, body awareness and self-regulation. She also loves her daily Chinese classes, where we have seen significant growth and confidence.
The school community is diverse and welcoming. Rafaela has already made a lot of friends! The strong focus on inclusion, communication and safeguarding gives us confidence that Rafaela is learning in a safe and supportive environment.
We wholeheartedly recommend the kindergarten at SAS to other families. It’s one of the largest international schools in Singapore operating on a non-profit basis, which ensures that the students’ best interests are at the centre of every decision. The community of teachers, staff and families is fully invested in the success of the school, creating an environment where children are supported to develop academically, socially and emotionally.
For us, the greatest reassurance has been seeing our child happy, confident and supported each day.

Superland Pre-School
Founded: 2002
Dates: January to December
Ages: 2 months to 6 years
Size: 2,300 pupils
Curriculum: Montessori and thematic-based
Preschool review: Kate and Walter Czarnecki, Polish; Casimir (5)
We have been living in Singapore for five and a half years. Casimir has been attending Superland Pre-School River Valley since he was 12 months old. He started in Infant Care and is now in K2.
It was a brand new school in 2020. Danielle, the principal, has kept the quality of teaching high. This has helped with our son’s preparation for a top international school in Singapore when he joins in Grade 1.
Starting from Infant Care, Casimir received his first Mandarin lesson, alongside a fantastic foundation in phonics, reading and writing, providing a well-rounded education for English, Mandarin and Mathematics. The proof that their Mandarin lessons are good was when we enrolled Casimir in a Mandarin Language summer camp during a visit to the US. All the Laoshis were impressed with his ability to communicate in a language that isn’t his mother tongue. The student body at Superland Pre-School River Valley is diverse, too, so the school offers French and Japanese as additional languages.
Casimir’s week is made up of outdoor learning at Fort Canning, Montessori classes with child-led learning, and exposure to ECAs such as swimming, keyboard and others. The campus has an outdoor playground and access to Fort Canning. Having a break from the classroom allows Casimir to reset his focus, helping him better comprehend the lesson.
The school is also focused on citizenship and what it means to be a good person. We’ve taken part in Helper Appreciation Day, performing at a nursing home, and baking treats for health workers as an act of appreciation for their frontline work.
Also worth mentioning are the quarterly excursions, cultural celebrations, and annual sports day and concert. The last two are really important for class bonding, boosting self-esteem and a sense of achievement, all of which we have welcomed in our household.

Early Childhood at One World International School Nanyang Campus
Founded: 2008
School year: August to June
Ages: From 3 to 18 years
Size: 1,150 students
Curriculum: IB (PYP, DP), modified Cambridge, IGCSE
Preschool review: Pooja Mehta and Karan Doshi, Indian; Meher (8) and Saisha (5)
Both our children are studying at OWIS Nanyang Campus – Meher started in Grade 1 and is now in Grade 3, Saisha started in EC1 and is currently in EC2.
One of the things that attracted us is the campus; it has a traditional look and feel, yet is well equipped and adequate. This helps instil humility and grounding in the children, which is very important for us.
Another thing is that most of the school’s teaching staff has stayed with the school for many years, often teaching the same grade. This provides consistency and thoroughness in imparting knowledge to the children.
The CCA programme at OWIS is robust with a wide variety of activities to choose from. CCAs that aren’t popular are replaced with other alternatives to keep the offering current and exciting.
The school has a strong parent community. It’s also heartening to see the school management consciously consider parents’ views when making decisions.
The school fees are quite affordable, something that was definitely a factor when choosing a preschool in Singapore for our children. This doesn’t mean compromising the quality of education. Perhaps this is why we feel OWIS provides value for money.
If you’re looking for a school that provides a good education alongside basic values like kindness, helpfulness and humility, then we highly recommend considering OWIS.

Founded: 1990
Dates: January to December, year-round enrolment
Ages: 18 months to 6+ years
Size: 400 students across five locations
Curriculum: Learning through play, inquiry-based and play-based
Preschool review: Faye and David Pullen, British; Summer (2.5) and Harry (4 months)
We are Singapore PRs and have been here since 2020. Both our children were born in Singapore. Summer has attended Shaws Mountbatten campus since June 2025, and Harry will be joining Shaws next year when he is 18 months old.
Numerous friends and neighbours gave Shaws glowing reviews. At an Open Day, we loved the friendly atmosphere. We initially enrolled Summer for half days but soon changed to full days as she was requesting to stay during lunchtime pick-ups.
We absolutely love seeing Summer thrive and enjoy her time at Shaws. The curriculum is a great mix of hands-on learning, outdoor activities and creative play. We also thoroughly enjoy the quarterly adult-accompanied excursions. We get to experience first-hand how much Summer thrives with her teachers and school friends.
Summer also loves the story and music sessions. We’ve been so impressed when she comes home singing both English and Mandarin nursery rhymes. We were very keen to have our children learn Mandarin. So, we’re very happy that there are Chinese speaking sessions each day so the children can be immersed in Mandarin from an early age.
Shaws also has a fabulous Sports Little league component. It’s so cute seeing Summer using golf clubs, rugby balls, mini balance beams, basketball hoops, tennis racquets and various other sports activities!
The teachers at Shaws are incredible and so personable – they seem to know everyone’s families. They take time to say hello and speak with us at pick-ups and drop offs, while also updating us on Summer’s progress. With regular updates via the Shaws app, we also see how much Summer enjoys herself.
We would absolutely recommend Shaws. Summer is thriving, growing and learning. Most importantly, she’s enjoying herself in a safe, joyful environment with her friends and teachers.

MapleBear Preschools in Singapore
Founded: 2013
Dates: January to December
Ages: 2 months to 18 months (infant care), 18 months to 6 years old (preschool)
Size: 4,000+ students
Curriculum: Play-based bilingual immersion learning
Preschool review: Joycelyn Yeo and Nils Hansen, Singaporean and German; Felix (7), Hannes (7) and Peter (7)
All our boys were at MapleBear Preschool Redhill campus from age two to six years. They’ve since moved on to primary school.
Nils previously lived in Jakarta for 23 years before moving to Singapore and has been here for seven years. When we were looking for a preschool for our boys, we used Google for research. There were also positive recommendations from our circle of contacts and friends on MapleBear’s curriculum and pedagogy.
The preschool has been supportive in the growth of our boys. The teachers partnered closely with us to support their individual needs, helping them to thrive as individuals.
They have bilingual classes with one teacher speaking in English and one speaking in Mandarin partnering closely in the classroom.
The school was previously located in a sports complex and had an external vendor conducting sports as well as swimming classes as part of the curriculum within the compound.
The close partnership with parents, the bilingual education and the balance of play and academic structure provide a sound foundation for children in the early years. We definitely recommend MapleBear Preschool.

Size: 1,750 students
Curriculum: Full IB programme taught in English, German Curriculum taught in German
Kindergarten review: Khadheeja Mufliha and Mohamed Luveiz, Maldivian; Sarah (14) and Khalifa (5)
We have been living in Singapore since August 2024 and both our children have been going to GESS since then. Khalifa joined Preschool in Kindergarten 1 and is now in Kindergarten 2; Sarah is in Middle School.
We heard about GESS from another Maldivian family whose child goes there. Since joining the school, we have found that it provides quality education in a non-pressured environment. The curriculum is executed in a high-quality manner. They also provide continuous feedback on the performance of our children. If there are students who need extra help, the school provides lots of support for free.
The friendly staff are very approachable. We also like the quality school infrastructure and green atmosphere throughout the campus. The facilities are good and help in looking after the students’ wellbeing.
We recommend the preschool at GESS to other families!

ELFA Preschools in Singapore
Founded: 2000
Dates: January to December (year-round enrolment)
Ages: From 2 months to 6 years
Size: Space for 280 students across three campuses
Curriculum: Story-based approach with a bilingual curriculum in English and Mandarin
Preschool review: Sabrina Mimoune and Maxime Jouineau, French; Ayden (3)
We arrived in Singapore in September 2023 and enrolled Ayden at ELFA Preschool in October 2023.
We learned about the preschool through recommendations and our own research. After visiting the campus and engaging with the educators, we were impressed by the team’s professionalism and the warm atmosphere. Choosing ELFA Preschool felt like the right decision to provide Ayden with a strong foundation for his early years.
Since joining the preschool, we have had a very positive experience. As parents who had just relocated to Singapore, finding a nurturing, safe and stimulating environment for our son was extremely important to us. From the very beginning, we felt welcomed and supported by the preschool community, which made our transition much smoother.
We particularly appreciate the caring and attentive educators, who support Ayden’s development with patience and kindness. The curriculum is well balanced and encourages both learning and independence from an early age. We also value the multicultural environment and the exposure to different languages, especially Mandarin, which is very important to us as we build our lives in Singapore. The facilities are well adapted for young children and ELFA has created an environment where they can grow with confidence.
We would definitely recommend the preschool to other families. It offers a supportive environment, dedicated educators and a strong sense of community, which are essential for young children starting their early education in Singapore.

Early Years at Dover Court International School
Founded: 1972
Dates: August to June
Ages: 3 to 18 years
Size: 2,000 students
Curriculum: Enhanced English National Curriculum, IPC, IGCSE, IBDP, BTEC in Business, ASDAN
Preschool review: Gemma and Aran Alexander, British and Australian; Austen (7) and Aurora (4)
We’ve been in Singapore since 2016 and both our children are attending preschool at Dover Court International School. Austen joined in Reception in 2022 and he’s now in Year 3, while Aurora joined last year in Reception.
We’ve had nothing but a positive experience with the school since Austen first joined. Every single teacher the children have had has been wonderful, and both of them happily skip off to school every morning without a word of complaint!
The children at Dover Court are really seen and valued as individuals – we feel genuinely partnered with the school when it comes to our children’s academic journey. The progress that Austen and Aurora are making, both academically and socially, is clear and we couldn’t be happier.
We heard of Dover Court through a friend who, like us, wasn’t enamoured with the immensity and intensity of some of the other international preschools here. We were looking for a more intimate and relaxed environment for the kids. Although we had viewed other preschools, the moment we walked into Dover Court, we sensed it was exactly what we were after. It’s kind, inclusive, unpretentious and non-intimidating. It’s done nothing but exceed our expectations.
If you’re looking for a preschool in Singapore that approaches learning holistically and each child as an individual, then Dover Court is the place for you. Their approach to education is also genuinely inclusive, which we love. Our children are growing into very accepting and kind global citizens. We definitely recommend the preschool at Dover Court International School!

3 key terms for parents to know
#1 Preschool
Before beginning statutory education at the age of six years in Singapore, many children attend preschool in Singapore from the age of 18 months upwards. In Britain, preschool is known as nursery school or playgroup, while in the US the terms preschool and pre-K are used.
#2 Kindergarten
In Singapore, many international schools use the term kindergarten to describe the first, and sometimes second, year of primary school education. However, the Singapore Ministry of Education uses the term kindergarten in Singapore to mean a preschool that provides a structured three-year preschool programme for children aged four to six. Children learn activities that develop language and literacy skills, basic number concepts, social skills, creative and problem-solving skills, appreciation of music and movement, outdoor play, English as a first language, and Chinese, Malay or Tamil.
#3 Curriculum
After “fun” and “play”, one of the first words you’re likely to encounter when visiting preschools in Singapore is “curriculum”. The curriculum is essentially the syllabus that underpins the learning principles at the heart of every preschool. There’s a huge range of curriculums and teaching philosophies adopted in Singapore, from Montessori to Reggio Emilia, to the International Primary Curriculum. Many schools have adopted a hybrid or tailor-made curriculum that draws on elements of well-known systems, infused with the individual passions and beliefs of the school founders. Whatever is in place at the schools you look at, be sure to find out how it will suit the needs of your child.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – click for the answers!
Choosing the right early-years institution depends on your child’s age, learning style, language needs, family schedule, budget and the kind of curriculum you prefer (e.g., play-based, inquiry, Montessori, bilingual). The article emphasises starting with your own priorities and then comparing schools.
Many options exist: Montessori, Reggio Emilia, International Baccalaureate-inspired, bilingual immersion (e.g., English-Mandarin) and local play-based frameworks. The article highlights that curricula vary widely so it’s important to match the philosophy to your child.
Fees vary considerably: For government-subsidised kindergartens, fees may start from a few hundred Singapore dollars per month, while private/international kindergartens can cost much more – thousands of dollars per month.
Since many sought-after centres have wait-lists, especially in popular neighbourhoods or for bilingual programmes, it’s advisable to begin research and applications many months ahead (or even a year ahead for peak demand).
Key topics to ask questions about: teacher-to-child ratio, language exposure, outdoor/indoor play facilities, curriculum details, transition to primary school, parental involvement, fees and extras (transport, uniforms, enrichment). Also observe the environment: Do the children look engaged? Are the teachers interacting meaningfully?
Very important. You’ll want the school to align with your home or workplace commute, especially in Singapore traffic or if you rely on school transport. Also check whether the session is half-day or full-day and if after-care is available if you work standard or extended hours.
Yes – many preschools in Singapore offer English with additional exposure in Mandarin (or other languages) or full immersion. Selecting the right language model depends on your family’s language goals. Note that bilingual programmes may come at a higher cost or involve greater competition.
“Better” is relative to your child and family. Key differentiators include teaching philosophy, teacher quality and consistency, class size, programme content (including enrichment), outdoor space, parent-school communication, and how well it supports transition to primary school. Don’t just pick by brand – visit, observe and ask for parent feedback.
For certain eligible families (citizens, PRs) there are government-subsidised places available under the Anchor Operator Scheme (AOP) and KiFAS (Kindergarten Fee Assistance Scheme). For international/private schools, subsidies may be limited or inapplicable for expats.
The article reviews 29 preschools and kindergartens in Singapore, featuring insights from families and their experiences. It’s designed to give you a broad view of options, help you compare, and serve as a starting point – not a definitive list. Use it alongside school visits, your budget and your child’s needs.
