Does this award-winning facial work?

10th January 2019 by Anthia Chng 3 Min Read

Count yourself lucky if you’re naturally blessed with a good complexion that’s well-hydrated and spotless. For the rest of us, achieving clear skin takes more than having a ten-step skincare regime, or slathering on a sheet mask every now and then. The good news? Common skin concerns like acne scars, pigmentation, wrinkles and dark eye circles can be tackled with the right treatment and skincare products. Here, we find out more about the award-winning HydroCollagen+ Skin treatment at New York Skin Solutions.

How does it work?

Customised to all skin types, this 90-minute facial features a unique three-tier skin renewal technique to give your skin the ultimate hydration boost. First, micro-molecules with active ingredients penetrate deep into the skin layer to promote cellular repair. The second layer, marine collagen, is then infused to minimise the pores, as well as improve skin elasticity and texture, leaving your skin supple and firm. Hyaluronic acid is the star of the last step, as it helps to brighten, further hydrate and seal in moisture for instant radiance.

Our review

Beauty editor Anthia Chng test-drives the facial – read on for her thoughts!

As with all other facials offered at New York Skin Solutions, a consultation is the first order of the day. I’m led into a room to chat with my therapist about my concerns. A skin analysis is done with an advanced camera system, which zooms in (up to 200 times) to capture the deep layers of my skin. Pores, blackheads, inflamed zits – nothing can escape the microscopic eye of this techy device! My therapist Veron, who has over 20 years of related experience under her belt, is friendly and well-versed in her knowledge of all things skincare and treatments.

The appointment starts with a skin analysis

The treatment begins with double cleansing: first with a milky cleanser, followed by a gel-based cleanser to clean deeply and get rid of leftover grime and makeup. All products used are botanically based, so they’re gentle on the skin and suitable for all skin types. Next, a softening mask is applied to soften the blackheads and pores, which helps with what’s to come: extraction, a dreaded yet necessary step, especially if your pores are congested like mine! While the process isn’t pain-free, it is rather quick thanks to Veron’s skilful hands. An anti-bacterial toner is immediately applied on the extracted areas, which effectively soothes and calms the skin. Then, Veron applies a rich collagen serum all over my face using an ultrasound machine, which helps the active ingredients penetrate into the deeper skin layers. The ultrasound waves also help to tighten and brighten the complexion.

Instant results: my pores are much cleaner!

The pampering concludes with a couple of rounds of face and shoulder massage, along with a double mask, both infused with peppermint extract to soothe and calm the skin. This is my favourite part of the facial, as I managed to catch 10 minutes of shut-eye – score!

My combination-type skin has been exceptionally fickle lately – breakouts around certain areas of the face, dryness on the cheeks – so this facial is a timely rescue. Post-treatment, I walk out with clearer, brighter and more youthful skin, plus my under-eye area looks so much lighter than before. Looking at the immediate results achieved after just 90 minutes, I’m extremely tempted to sign a package!
