Now in its fifteenth year, the Yale Young Global Scholars Program (YYGS) offers summer enrichment and leadership-training programs for outstanding high school students from across the globe.
In addition to six sessions on Yale’s campus in New Haven, three sessions in Africa, and one in Beijing, this inaugural session of Yale Young Global Scholars-Singapore (YYGS-Singapore)– a collaboration between Yale and NUS College – will bring together 200 exceptional high school students from around the world for an intensive week-long academic and leadership experience, from 30 May to 5 June 2016.
More about the program
The immersive week-long program will offer an interdisciplinary curriculum, modelled on the Yale Young Global Scholars sessions held at the Yale University campus.
YYGS-Singapore will be hosted at the state-of-the-art Yale-NUS College campus, offering students unparalleled access to enjoy the social and residential life elements at the core of the Yale and Yale-NUS experience.
They’ll participate in diverse lectures by top Yale University and Yale-NUS College professors, as well as seminars and small-group discussions on a variety of global issues, with the opportunity to engage with perspectives different from their own.
Students will take part in a series of skill building and college prep workshops specially designed to foster leadership, develop communication and presentation skills, and enhance critical reading and writing.
By combining year-long mentorship with a current Yale student and opportunities to engage with a host of like-minded peers, YYGS-Singapore aims to set a new generation of young leaders on the path toward continued success in high school, college, and beyond.
There’s a US$55 application fee and the cost of tuition per admitted student is US$3,500, which includes housing at Yale-NUS College and three daily meals for the duration of the program. No additional fees or taxes apply.
The program will provide need-based scholarships to qualifying students as well as application fee waivers; students can apply for financial aid directly on their application.
Admission is competitive and limited to 200 ninth and tenth grade students, residents or citizens of any country who have at least two full years remaining in secondary school. The application deadline is 26 January 2016.
Applicants are required to submit a personal statement and a short essay, an activities list or resume, one letter of recommendation and a school transcript. The competitive application is available here.
Standardised test scores are not required for admission to the program, but students are encouraged to submit them as supplementary materials.
