During a recent visit to Singapore, JAMIE AMELIO, the founder of the Caring for Cambodia (CFC) charity, shared some exciting expansion plans including more teacher training programmes.
It’s been three years since we spoke with Jamie about her charity that provides Cambodian kids with education, in partnership with the Cambodian government. The organisation also works with the country’s Minister of Education as the model for K-12 education across the country. CFC uses the Cambodian Ministry of Education (CME) curriculum to train Cambodian teachers. This ensures the curriculum content is relevant and can be delivered in a dynamic and impactful way.
Jamie was in Singapore in early March, visiting Tanglin Trust School (TTS) and Singapore American School (SAS). She spent time meeting with students from the CFC clubs of each school and hearing their takeaways from Service Learning trips and fundraisers for the charity.
She took the opportunity to update students, teachers and parents about the expansion plans that are in store for CFC.
Training more teachers, educating more children
“We opened the CFC Education and Development Center (EDC) in Siem Reap, a repository of information and an education incubator for Cambodian educators. Going forward, we’re looking at expanding the EDC so that more educators can receive training in the CME curriculum. We also want to support young adults with relevant training programmes to ensure they have a good skill set as they move into life beyond school.
“Through critical partnerships, we have also integrated Artificial Intelligence, STEM and ICT into the heart of our curriculum. This prepares students and educators for Cambodia’s rapidly evolving economy. Our Digital Innovation Lab continues to expand, serving as our commitment to integrating future-ready skills and hands-on learning – skills essential for the 21st century – into the curriculum. Since our founding in 2003, we have reached over 128,000 students, with more than 11,000 students currently enrolled. We proudly support over 315 educators and partner with more than 10,700 families.
“We remain deeply grateful for the unwavering support of partners including APNIC, The Asia Foundation, The Southeast Foundation, TTS and SAS. Their long-standing commitment has strengthened our teacher training programmes and professional development initiatives.”
Meaningful recognition
The impact of CFC on the future of Cambodia has been recognised by the Cambodian government, with Jamie receiving the Golden Hand Award in recognition of decades of dedicated support to the country’s development and reconstruction. Additionally, CFC was selected as a Runner-Up in the 2025 AmCham Cambodia CSR Awards under the Education and Empowerment category, recognising the measurable excellence and impact of their programmes
