One of the most established international schools in Bali, the Bali Island School (BIS) has started its new academic year this August. As well as welcoming returning and new families to its campus, BIS is looking forward to a year of milestones and celebrating its achievements of 2023/24. Let’s look at some of them!
High School – IBDP results
Grade 12 students in the 2023/24 International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) achieved an average point score of 34.73. This is above the 2024 world average of 30 points. The highest achieving student at BIS earned 42 points.
Thirty percent of the cohort obtained the bilingual diploma, providing them with additional advantage in their options for university programmes.
Head of BIS, Mike Miller, shared a congratulatory message for the cohort. “I’m incredibly proud of our IBDP students for consistently outperforming the IBDP world average scores over numerous years. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication, hard work and excellence of our school community. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all our staff and faculty for their invaluable contributions in making this success possible.”
Middle School – Service as Action (SaA)
As part of the Service as Action programme in 2023/24, Grade 6 to 10 students participated in several student-led projects:
- Focusing on Life below Water (UN SDG #14), 15 students planted five coral fragments on racks in a protected area. They did this with the help of professional divers from the Livingseas Foundation.
- Embracing a commitment to Life on Land (UN SDG #15), the students collaborated with Villa Kitty to sterilise dozens of stray cats in Gianyar.
- To help enhance English language skills in the community, students provided English lessons for local students in two public schools in Sanur. They also donated 50 books, including dictionaries, to these schools.
These projects impact the local community and the environment, highlighting the school’s commitment to creating positive change and sustainability.
Primary Years – refurbished facilities
The school says that it’s excited for students to explore the newly refurbished playground for the Primary school. The area has been designed to promote an active lifestyle and foster friendships among the young learners. There’s a variety of play equipment to explore in the space, including a bright swing set, tunnel slides, wavy slides with a monkey bar and swing, a teddy bear seesaw, a double-sided tree house with a small climbing wall, and a double giant tree house with a bridge, climber, and slide.
Other areas within the BIS campus have also been refurbished. They include the canteen and the covered court.
