So, I needed a good hydrating facial after three weeks in Australia, and I read that Beautylane offers a micro-needling treatment with a booster that sounded just right! It’s a beauty salon on the East Coast – which is quite far from me – but I think it’s necessary to travel sometimes to get the right services for you. (My hairdresser is over there too.) I ended up getting a lot more than I planned, including a RF (Radio Frequency) treatment around my eyes, and getting rid of some skin tags!
As I walk into the salon, I’m excited to see three little nooks for getting a mani-pedi. My feet (and hands) haven’t been looked at for months, so I ask if I can squeeze in a pedicure too!
Beautylane’s owner Janet says that we can do most of the pedicure at the same time as my hydrating facial, which sounds perfect. It’s so nice to be able to get a few things done at once. After a foot soak, Janet leads me into the lovely treatment room to assess my skin. She feels that as I have a few broken capillaries, micro-needling wouldn’t be the best choice.
Instead, she suggests their Skin Refining Facial Treatment, which is suitable for all skin types, plus some extra eye treatments. I tell her I’m in her hands and happy to go with her suggestions. She’s had this Beautylane for 33 years, so she must know what she’s doing!
A toning and hydrating facial
After a cleanse, we start with the patented award-winning facial treatment. The fruit acid serum is a natural peeling process that removes dead skin cells and refines pores. This makes the skin look brighter, and also makes it more receptive to whatever else is put on later. It also improves uneven skin tone, which is one of my issues.
A Hydrating Collagen mask is added at the end of the treatment to help hydrate and calm the skin. I’m really impressed with how Janet focuses on the neck and decolletage. I recently went for a neck treatment as that area is much more lined but usually not included in facial treatments. My chest is also sun-damaged, so it feels great that all this is included.
The whole time this is going on, my pedicure is also being done. It’s so much more relaxing than just sitting in a chair. Another tick!
I have two spots on my neck that seem to have been there for a while – they’ve been bothering me. Janet tells me they’re actually skin tags and she zaps them with cryotherapy. It removes all benign skin tags and lesions safely, quickly and effectively without damaging healthy tissue. Later, there’s some redness but it disappears in a week. I’m going to go back and get some other odd skin tags on my chest and arms blitzed!
My skincare routine isn’t great. I tend to just use a cleanser and moisturiser – and the same moisturiser for around my eyes. Janet says that toner is really important with balancing skin tone and getting the PH balance right before the moisturiser goes on. She also says that eyes do need eye cream as the skin is so different. I have products at home so I’ll try to remember to use them!
Eye treatment and Radio Frequency
The next recommendation is a fruit acid eye treatment to help brighten up the skin colour and texture. First, a very gentle aloe vera scrub is used, followed by eye serum and an eye cream massage. Then comes a deep moisturising eye mask. I choose to top it up with the 10-minute Radio Frequency (RF) after eye treatment, a non-invasive procedure that uses focused energy to boost collagen and elastin for firming and tightening effects. The results are pretty immediate. The area under the eye is lifted and looks so much better! I don’t have dark eye circles, but if you do, it can help with those too.
I’ve had a few RF sessions and I like that it’s painless, and even quite relaxing. It’s great to have it after skin-peeling treatments when the top layer of skin is so new. And improvements will continue over the months. For a major revamp, you can have six sessions, done every couple of weeks. You can focus on one particular area, like the eyes, or do the full face lift, including the neck.
Radio Frequency is also good for:
- eyebags, droopy eyelids and puffy eyes;
- wrinkles and fine lines;
- plumping up the cheeks;
- defining jaw lines; and
- softening smile lines.
My next beauty salon visit
On the way out, I notice they have a special offer on the semi-permanent Ombre powdery brow that I really liked. It’s been a few years since I’ve had it done so it’s quite faded. When I dyed them myself recently, I looked ‘wicked’ for weeks. So I’ve booked that in and will also do an eyelash tint and perm – then I don’t have to worry about makeup while I’m in the UK for Christmas. I may be too cold to put mascara on!
It’s so nice to have so much available in one spot. They even have more semi-permanent makeup options too, if you want to make things easier for yourself. I had the permanent eyeliner done ages ago and it’s just brilliant.
Beautylane is a beauty salon at 144 East Coast Road.
