Wondering where to buy dresses in Singapore? We catch up with Talk of Town founder ALIYA DOSSA, who gives us some insights into her exciting new in-house label, LOLO, featuring a range of feminine, beautiful dresses. This Tanglin Mall boutique also offers permanent jewellery!
You’ve just debuted Talk of Town’s in-house label in Singapore, featuring a collection of beautiful dresses. Congratulations! What was the inspiration behind it?
Thank you! Yes, I’m indeed excited about the launch of LOLO – a collection of feminine, flowy dresses. The inspiration came from a need to offer our clients a range of dresses suited to our humid, tropical Singapore weather.
Tell us more about your process of creating these beautiful dresses.
I wanted to collaborate with an artist to bring to life the different ideas I had for our prints. We therefore worked with renowned artist Tashi Tsering, who is known for his exotic print patterns. It was also important to use fabrics that are soft, airy, easy to care for, and most importantly, comfortable for our tropical lifestyle. The entire LOLO line has been made using viscose for that “light feel” effect. In fact, we recently had our photoshoot for the brand in Australia, and the blue waters provided the perfect backdrop for our LOLO dresses, portraying a sense of serenity.
For those wondering where to buy dresses in Singapore, do you have a favourite piece from the collection? How would you style it?
My favourite has to be the “Royal Vase” dress. The print features a collection of ginger jars, all of which have been handpainted with watercolours, including the intricate details you would typically find on a blue ceramic ginger jar. My personal love for anything chinoiserie was the inspiration for this print. I love that you can wear this dress without needing to style it further and still look amazing. That said, styling it with a Panama hat and a belt to cinch the waistline adds sophistication to the look. Talk of Town also offers a great range of apparel, accessories and demi-fine jewellery.
Any other collections or pieces at the Talk of Town boutique we should look out for?
We have a vast range of French, Italian and Canadian labels available in-store, and we pride ourselves on affordable price points without compromising on quality. As for jewellery, we recently launched our “Envy” Collection – a classic range featuring emerald fusion stones set alongside European-cut zirconia on sterling silver, plated in 14k yellow gold. Emeralds have been the hottest trend in the industry for 2024, and this is definitely a line you’ll want to invest in for yourself.
With the holiday season right around the corner, do you have any gifting tips?
