We live in an age of reflection – many of us try journalling, workshops or therapy for anxiety and trauma, yet old patterns and self-sabotaging habits persist. Therapist LORRAINE BOH, founder of Subliminal State Therapy, explains that self-awareness is just the first step – real change starts deep in the subconscious mind. And that’s exactly what subconscious therapy is designed to unlock.
Many of your clients already have a strong sense of self-awareness and have tried various therapies. What’s the common challenge they bring to you?
These are my favourite people to work with. They’re intelligent and strong, and they’ve done the work. But they often tell me the same thing: “I can see the pattern, but I can’t break it.”
For some, it shows up as unexplained physical symptoms that doctors can’t quite pin down but they sense go beyond the physical. For others, it’s snapping at their children even though they promised themselves they wouldn’t repeat old patterns. Some describe feeling disconnected, unable to truly let people in despite craving closeness.
It’s like knowing the road is broken but still being forced to drive down it every day. The issue isn’t awareness – it’s that the blueprint for that road, etched in the subconscious, hasn’t yet been updated. This is why clients often come seeking both clarity and deeper healing, wanting to bridge the gap between self-awareness and actual transformation.
Why is it so difficult to break these cycles on our own?
The conscious mind is logical and determined, but it only accounts for about 10 percent of our mental capacity. The subconscious – the other 90 percent – stores our earliest memories, emotions and survival strategies. I call these “programmes”, and most of the time, they’re running the show.
Trying to override a deep belief like “I’m unworthy of being heard” with logic is like playing tug-of-war. The subconscious mind always wins – not out of stubbornness, but because it’s simply following its old programming.
A common fear is that letting go of beliefs such as “I must work hard to be valued” will make you lazy. In reality, healing brings balance. Clients don’t stop working – they just stop depleting themselves for approval. They discover they’re valuable at rest as well as in action. That’s healthy functioning.
Some people know how to enter the subliminal state for self-healing. But sometimes the work feels too daunting to do alone. That’s when even other healers come to me for support.
You say the subconscious stores what we struggle to access. How does your therapy for anxiety and other issues bring this to the surface safely?
Many worry it’s like opening Pandora’s box, unleashing more than they can handle. But that’s not how this process works. Subconscious therapy is paced by your own mind. You only access what you’re ready and able to process.
Through guided relaxation and gentle prompts, we bypass the critical mind and allow the subconscious mind to bring forward what it chooses to release. Nothing is forced. I always check in with the subconscious first to ensure it’s safe and beneficial before we proceed.
Your inner wisdom leads the way, so the experience feels manageable, supportive and respectful of your readiness. Generally, the more cathartic the session, the bigger the shifts clients notice in their everyday lives.
How does unprocessed past material affect us physically?
The body keeps the score. A trapped emotion isn’t just a memory – it’s a chemical and electrical imprint in your nervous system.
When it isn’t processed, it often shows up as chronic anxiety, fatigue, digestive issues or even a weakened immune system. Your body is literally holding onto the tension of a story your mind has tried to forget. Once we release the emotional charge, the body often responds with relief, lightness, and healing.
Bigger physical issues are often an accumulation of stuck emotions over time. These usually take around five sessions to resolve.
What does a typical journey with you look like?
We start with the conscious mind, looking at the presenting issue, which is usually just a symptom. Then, through a safe and natural subliminal state, we access the subconscious layer.
Together, we identify the root of the issue, release the outdated belief, and replace it with one aligned with the client’s inner wisdom. This new blueprint shifts how they show up in the world – and what they attract. Often, physical symptoms also improve or disappear.
Most clients notice big changes in one to two sessions. Deeper, layered issues may take up to four. Either way, the process is gentle yet profoundly effective.
A word from a client on Subliminal State Therapy:
“Lorraine started as a friend nearly seven years ago, but has become so much more over the years, encouraging me to open up, break down walls and heal old wounds. She has helped guide me to understanding who I am on a deeper level and how to be a stronger version of myself. Whether it is a one-on-one session or with the wonderful group of women I have met through Lorraine, I always feel safe, empowered, energised and at peace. I have found myself reacting differently to situations that would have triggered me in the past. Thank you, Lorraine, for sharing your wisdom and kindness and always keeping a safe space.” – Lou G
