Stamford American International School in Singapore has a new Superintendent, Matt Mills. He’s looking forward to strengthening the school’s academic excellence, and putting a particular focus on personalised learning pathways and balancing academics with personal development.
A vision for Stamford American
Matt brings 40 years of international school leadership to his appointment. He’s excited to focus on the following aspects of growth for the school:
- Strengthening the academic programmes so as to support students in achieving their full potential.
- Providing students with diverse education opportunities. This is done through tailored and personalised learning pathways that include IB, AP, BTEC and Stamford Courses.
- Integrating educational practices that promote critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills.
- Fostering a well-rounded educational experience that balances academic achievement with personal growth and development.
- Building a strong school community that’s supportive so that students, faculty and parents collaborate to create a thriving educational environment.
The options of personalised learning pathways
The school’s commitment to academic rigour is matched with providing students the opportunity to choose their preferred educational pathways.
From Grade 10 (age 15), students can choose courses from the College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) programme. From Grade 11, they can opt for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), or they can blend AP, IB, BTEC and Stamford Courses together to graduate with a US-accredited High School Diploma.
These overarching frameworks blend American and International curricula together to provide responsive education, which is reflected in the school’s academic results. These include top scores in AP exams and a 100 percent pass rate as well as three students achieving the highest score in BTEC assessments. Furthermore, 71 graduates achieved an average IB score of 34.6. The average grade for Advanced Placement was 3.5 out of the highest of grade of 5.
