Tried and Tested: We tried popular skincare products for men’s skincare!

19th April 2022 by Zawani Abdul Ghani 4 Min Read

A man’s skincare routine is often praised for being short and simple. With these skincare reviews, we share with you effective men’s skincare products and face creams for men that save time, but still, show results!

Aveeno’s Skin Relief Moisturising Lotion, $26.90, and Body Wash, $21.90

aveeno.com.sg

I’m a big fan of Aveeno because I know that it’s very gentle on the skin and it actually helps calm irritated skin. I play a lot of sports (especially tennis and squash) and I find myself having a rash sometimes, mainly due to sweat. I use the Aveeno Body Wash and Skin Relief lotion and I find that it soothes my skin and the rashes disappear. I took it to Australia on holiday where I was out on the beach a lot and my skin was exposed to a lot of sun and seawater. These men’s skincare products helped with the skin after a whole morning at the beach. Even my youngest daughter, who has minor eczema, found that it helps calm her skin issues down too.

Dr. Belter’s Quickstart Gel Wash, $73, and Clarity Concentrate, $69

belter-cosmetic.com

I’m not fond of elaborate beauty routines so picking up a quality facial cleanser is one of the easiest ways to take care of my skin. This soap-free gel cleanser is soothing on the face and works well with my combination skin. Its mild abrasive particles leave your skin feeling smooth and clean and there’s an icy kick to it that’ll wake you up in the morning; the anti-irritant formula is also ideal if you’ve got sensitive skin. With so much time spent masked up, acne and facial blemishes have been a recurrent problem. While many of the acne creams I’ve used tend to leave behind harsh, dry skin, the Clarity Concentrate dries up, disinfects and even soothes the affected area.

Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Hyaluronic Serum, $445, and Face Cream Men, $250

sg.drsturm.com

I don’t have a skincare routine; all I do is wash my face with water and once in a while I will use soap. My skin condition is dry and sometimes it also feels flaky. The Hyaluronic Serum always leaves a cool and refreshing sensation on my skin. After one week of daily use, my skin seems to feel tighter and firmer. The face cream went on my skin easily and was absorbed quickly, but it left a slightly sticky feeling that I wasn’t used to. After using it daily for a week, I could also feel and see that my skin was smoother than before. The pump on the face cream bottle makes application easy, which in turn makes sticking to a skincare routine easier for a rough man like me.

Fenty Beauty’s Hydra Vizor Invisible Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen Moisturizer, $55

sephora.sg

Long and complicated men’s skincare routines are not my thing. So, when my wife suggested I try a moisturiser that includes sunscreen, I thought, hey, it’s a two-in-one. The Hydra Vizor from Fenty Skin is just that – light-as-air hydration and invisible sun protection cream that, if you follow the instructions on the box, you’ll apply every single day – no excuses. This skin product is easy to use, easy to apply, non-greasy and has a refreshing scent. It has a slight purple hue when applied and absorbs quickly. The two-piece pump packaging self-seals with a twist of the base – excellent if you travel. It’s an environmentally friendly product as well, with refills available. A huge plus is that it’s coral reef-friendly, with no nasty oxybenzone or octinoxate – which, given the CEO, Rihanna, grew up in Barbados, is no surprise.

Fenty Beauty’s Hydra Vizor Invisible Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen Moisturize

By Philocali’s Liquid Mask, $99

byphilocali.com

This is a great skin product as it’s very easy to use as an all-in-one product rather than going through individual bottles in a skincare routine. After washing your face, you can spray this on and let it absorb; it’s so easy as there is no need to rinse. The collagen and built-in moisturiser help to firm and moisturise the skin. I’ve never subscribed to a men’s skincare routine and as this is covering all bases, it’s definitely a great product for all men.

Clarity Collection – Cleanser ($30, 135ml), Tonic ($48, 250ml) and Lotion ($38, 50ml)

pixibeauty.com

The Pixi range is easy to use as part of a holistic men’s skincare routine and feels great on the skin as the whole range contains salicylic, lactic and glycolic acid which helps refresh and exfoliate the skin. First, the cleanser buffs my skin and cleanses my pores, followed by the tonic to remove any impurities, with the final step being the lotion, which boosts the hydration by soaking into the skin well without leaving a shine. The smaller packaging makes it a great skin product for travel, too.
