Top hair loss treatments for men

Updated on 28th January 2019 by Anthia Chng |

Be it bald spots or a receding hairline, most men tend to experience some form of hair loss or thinning, commonly caused by genes and hormone changes. By age 35, nearly 40% of men will suffer some form of hair loss – a number that rises to 65% by the time they’re 60. Here are seven salons and clinics with effective hair loss treatments to fight balding!

Before and after

Glower Hair Care

An affiliate to medical hair-loss centre Ashley & Martin, Glower adopts a holistic approach to ensuring the body’s well-being, which ultimately leads to better hair and scalp health. The treatment programs are tailored to the individual, using Chinese and European herbs, multi-vitamins, light therapy and ozone therapy. Restorative massage techniques are also used to increase blood supply to the surface of the scalp, accelerate the removal of impurities and rejuvenate nerve endings for better hair growth.

The pharmacy team in Singapore has perfected a new product, the 7% RealGrowth Foam, for male patients to regrow their hair. This is the first of its kind that’s available in Singapore and exclusive to Glower Hair Care’s medical business, Ashley & Martin. Another new feature is the Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT) cap rental ($80 a month), which lets you rent the system at an affordable monthly rental fee. The success of regular laser therapy for hair regrowth is well known, so being able to carry out such treatments from home has massive benefits. Get a free first consultation with a trichologist from their experienced and specialised team!

Terra Medical Hair & Aesthetic Clinic

Unlike hair spas and salons, this aesthetic clinic offers more than just cosmetic procedures. By going through the patient’s medical history, the team can get a better understanding and diagnosis of their hair loss conditions, and thus are able to offer holistic medical solutions to target the issues. On offer is a range of solutions from invasive treatments like hair transplants to non-invasive methods including scalpboosters and low light laser therapy, but what we’re most excited about is Regenera Activa ($3800), an advanced hair growth technology from Europe.

First launched at Terra, this treatment has been proven to help rejuvenate damaged hair follicles by activating the inactive areas in the scalp. How does it work? Small samples of the skin are taken painlessly along the back of the scalp. The precision engineered Regenera Activa device further divides them into smaller, more absorbable portions, micrografts. The doctor then prepares the micrografts to be reintroduced to areas of scalp that are experiencing hair loss. The whole process takes only 15 to 30 minutes and there is no downtime involved. Regenera Activa has gone through extensive clinical trials across the world and has achieved US FDA, CE and HSA approval as a medical device. Visible results can be seen in as soon as 14 days and effects can last for at least a year.

Sozo Aesthetic Clinic

Looking to improve hair loss without the side effects of medication and the risks of hair transplant surgery? Another clinic offering the highly advanced Regenera Activa is Sozo Aesthetic Clinic, a centrally located clinic in Raffles Place. Dr Justin Boey from Sozo Aesthetic Clinic combines two leading hair transplant alternatives: Regenera Activa (from $3500) combined with Sozo’s proprietary Hair-Booster Serum (from $400) for best results.

As Regenera Activa uses autologous micrografts, which are extracted from your own body, the treatment is completely natural and safe, with no risk of rejection or allergy. Perfect for professionals and busy individuals who are looking for a hair growth solution without downtime, Regenera Activa can be done once a year for thicker and stronger hair. Sozo is the first medical hair clinic in Singapore to incorporate AnteAge MD in a proprietary Sozo Hair-Booster serum, a medical-grade serum containing cytokines to promote hair growth. This once-a-month serum treatment helps to enhance the effects of Regenera Activa.

salon kream
The bright and spacious interiors

Salon Kream

Located in Holland Village, this bright and spacious salon is a one-stop location for men’s hair and scalp needs. Salon Kream offers modern haircuts and customised services, catering mainly to Caucasian hair types. If you’re suffering from hair loss, we recommend the Kérastase hair thinning ritual ($98), which helps to remove excess sebum responsible for clogging the hair follicles and limiting hair growth.

Designed to treat thinning hair and hair loss from the roots, this 45-minute treatment works great as a lunchtime pick-me-up. Kérastase Specifique Acti-Base is first applied and massaged into your scalp, then your hair will be put under a steamer for 10 minutes to lock in the product. After which, your hair will be treated to the Kérastase Sensidote Dermo-Calm Masque for additional moisture. The hair follicles are made stronger and less prone to breakage, and the hair is left thicker and more resilient, while retaining volume and shine.

Hairdreams Couture Salon’s elegant waiting area

Hairdreams Couture Salon

Specialising in hair thickening and lengthening services, Hairdreams offers the Stop & Grow treatment ($128 or $58 for a first trial), which reduces hair loss, boosts hair root activity, detoxifies the scalp and stimulates hair growth. Based on vegetable phytohormones and collagen fibres, the formula is a highly effective concentrate that fights the negative effects of dihydrotestosterone, a hormone linked to male balding.

The session starts with an in-depth consultation and scalp analysis to determine the current scalp condition, and to decide on the suitable in-salon and at-home treatment plan. The Stop & Grow three-in-one activation cream is then applied and massaged into the scalp to get rid of residue and dirt. Infra-red light is also used to promote and stimulate growth, and your scalp will be cleansed with the Stop & Grow Volume Mousse Shampoo. As with many other treatments, results are not achieved overnight. The salon recommends a three-month therapy, which involves two in-salon treatments per month, and home care every day.

chez vous salon singapore
Chez Vous

Chez Vous

Centrally located in Ngee Ann City, Chez Vous boasts a team of stylists with a minimum 10 years of experience, including a Caucasian specialist team for expat hair concerns! Our top pick for hair loss? The two-in-one Amplified Scalp Treats with Non-invasive Laser Therapy (starts from $200 for first trial), which involves three sessions of indulgent head massage packed into one service (to relieve tension and stimulate blood circulation), two fully customised scalp therapies and a Galvanic Ionizer to remove dead cells and impurities. On top of this, laser light is used to rejuvenate the scalp, while the electrical current and oxygen molecules exfoliates and improves blood circulation. The two-hour treatment is suitable for those with oily scalps, too, as the micro-currents aid in balancing sebum secretion.

EstheClinic

Alleviate your hair-thinning woes with EstheClinic’s Slow & Regrowth Hair Loss treament, a three-step process that restores the scalp and promotes hair growth. First off, the LeDermaBooster XL is applied onto the scalp to stimulate and open ephemeral micro-channels in the surface. This allows for deeper penetration of the hair products, and prepares the scalp for the next phase too. The Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) then delivers a cool laser energy to the scalp tissue to strengthen the hair fibres and stop hair fall. Lastly, ElaDerm haircare products, which contain organic silicium, are used. These products reduce excessive sebum production, and keep the moisture balance of the scalp and hair follicles, so you can look forward to thicker, stronger, healthier hair with time. While results are usually visible within four to eight sessions, Estheclinic recommends 12 to 16 sessions for long-lasting effects.
