Hair loss treatments, toupees and shampoos!

29th November 2021 by Expat Living 6 Min Read

https://expatliving.sg/hair-loss-treatments-for-men-singapore/

Experiencing thinning hair, bald spots or a receding hairline? They’re all common signs of hair loss in men and women that can be worked on. Here’s some information from hair salons, aesthetic clinics and trichology centres in Singapore on their scalp treatments, hair loss shampoos, toupees and hair regrowth solutions.

Rehair Lab

Hair replacement is a modern version of a wig (toupee) to help conceal the area experiencing hair loss – both bald spots or thinning hair. The hairpiece is attached to the head but made to be comfortable, and so natural that it’s undetectable. At Rehair Lab, each one is custom made from 100% human hair to match not only the texture and shade of your own hair, but also your lifestyle. And all the hairpieces have to pass strict quality control measures to ensure that they’re durable.

Unlike hair transplants, these hair replacement systems are completely non-surgical, non-invasive, painless and discomfort-free. The toupee is lightweight, easy maintain and will last four to six months. You can get one from Rehair Lab for the promotional price is $388. Worth a try!

Terra Medical Hair & Aesthetic Clinic

On top of being the first medical clinic in Singapore to launch the highly raved about Regenera Activa treatment, it is also known to have completed the most number of these treatments here to date. Led by an experienced team, the clinic specialises solely in hair restoration. You’ll find a wide selection of solutions to tackle both kinds of hair loss – genetic and non-genetic (resulting from lifestyle, deficiency or trauma); there are non-medical and medical treatments, and both non-invasive and invasive procedures, including hair transplants.

For something less invasive, try Nutrafol, a clinically tested, USA-made hair supplement that targets non-genetic hair-loss conditions. Terra is the only clinic carrying this top-end supplement, which produces visible results from 30 days onwards.

For at-home hair care, a great option is Aromase, a medical-grade range that has been clinically tested to treat mild to severe scalp conditions. Other than hair restoration, the clinic also offers facial hair transplant (including beard and eyebrows) and has developed techniques to perform long hair transplants for ladies with minimal downtime.

Your first appointment at the clinic will start with an in-depth, 45-minute consultation, where Medical Director Dr Joshua Chong can get a chance to understand the causes of your hair loss, and explain the prescribed solutions.

Angeline Yong Dermatology (AYD)

Thinning hair or bald spots can occur to anyone at any age, and it can be triggered by genetic, hormonal or environmental factors. While the typical person sheds around 50 to 100 hairs a day, someone experiencing clinical hair loss can lose much more, resulting in significant emotional distress.

A one-stop centre for hair-loss diagnosis, management and treatment, AYD was founded by Dr Angeline Yong, an experienced dermatologist and surgeon whose clinical interests lie in hair and nail disorders. AYD offers a variety of hair-restoration treatments that range from non-surgical to surgical procedures like hair transplants. For a noninvasive solution, try Revage 670 Laser, a quick and painless treatment that emits cool laser energy to the scalp to stimulate blood flow to the hair follicles. This hair loss treatment encourages tissue regeneration and has an 85 percent success rate of halting hair loss. Dr Yong recommends pairing the laser procedure with a microneedling treatment, which utilises hair growth peptides to enhance regrowth.

For hair loss caused by genetic factors, AYD offers both Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT). According to Dr Yong, FUE is usually the more popular option as the procedure is carried out with a motorised surgical tool to remove follicular unit grafts from the donor area. There is also less scarring (tiny dots) and downtime than with FUT, which involves removing a strip of hair-bearing skin on the donor area of the scalp.

IYAC Aesthetic Clinic

As with most concerns, hair loss is highly individualistic, so the treatment plan should be customised to the patient’s needs. At IYAC, the doctors adopt a holistic, inside-out approach, bolstered by a detailed hair and health analysis and the use of appropriate at-home hair care and supplements.

The Hair Re-Densify Program by IYAC Aesthetic Clinic aims to optimise scalp health and jump-start hair rejuvenation. This is a straightforward and comfortable 45-minute treatment with no downtime. It’s suitable for those with mild to moderate male- or female- pattern hair loss, as part of hair-loss prevention or for strengthening post-pregnancy hair.

The 12-session programme (one session a week) is designed to improve hair thickness and density, while preventing further hair loss and reducing grey hair. The treatment begins with a thulium laser over the scalp, followed by a gentle massage of a fortifying hair cocktail into the scalp. The star ingredient is PDRN (also known as polydeoxyribonucleotide or salmon DNA), which has been safely used in medicine for over 20 years to reduce inflammation and stimulate collagen renewal. The session rounds up with an LED treatment to improve the blood circulation of the crown.

Papilla Haircare

Not keen on going under the knife? Hair loss and hair thinning centre Papilla Haircare specialises in non-surgical hair regrowth treatments that are backed by science. The centre works closely with a team of scientists, dermatologists and hair transplant surgeons to target a wide range of hair and scalp concerns, including involutional alopecia and androgenic alopecia.

A signature treatment here is the SEP Activator, an FDA-approved, needle-free procedure from Italy. Using Scalpelectroporation (SEP), low and controlled electrical pulses help to deliver stem cell-conditioned media into the scalp. The technology makes the skin tissues more permeable to macromolecules, allowing for potent serums to be absorbed into the skin up to 17 times better. The painless treatment is also more advanced than traditional Ionthophoresis (transdermal drug delivery using voltage gradient on the skin), which can cause damage to the tissues and cells, and electroporation, which can be uncomfortable as it uses high voltages on the skin.

Try this hair loss shampoo!

Bema Hair Loss Organic Bio Shampoo, $30

“Don’t let the simple packaging fool you – this product really works! I’ve had a problem with hair loss since giving birth to my daughter, and it only worsened with time. I’ve tried all sorts of products, including expensive ones that promise big results, only to be disappointed. Nothing seemed to work. Within the first week of using this shampoo from online store Aldha, I could see results. I washed my hair every other day, massaging it into my scalp for around five minutes each time. I followed it up with my usual conditioner.

Bema Hair Loss Shampoo, $30

After the first couple of days, I noticed my hair getting stronger and shinier. Plus, I could see some baby hair sprouting, and it seems like I’m now losing less hair in the shower too! It’s been a great experience for me and I highly recommend the shampoo to anyone with hair loss. However, do note that the shampoo is not as foamy as ordinary shampoos. It’s dermatologically tested, formulated without harmful ingredients like parabens, and tested against metals; so, if you’re looking for a safe product to use, this is a wonderful option. It’s affordable, too!”
