Is it just me, or can finding the perfect gift for dad sometimes feel like an impossible task? With the current trend in men’s fashion embracing self-expression and individuality, an array of local Singaporean menswear brands have popped up, offering fashion and accessory gift ideas as rich in personality and character as they are gorgeously crafted.
Design Orchard for fashion and gifts
This is evident at ‘Modern Masculine’, a themed section at integrated retail and incubation space Design Orchard, managed by Singapore Fashion Council. It features a collection curated to reflect the multifaceted nature of men today. Head there to find the best gift for dad that will suit his personal style like a glove.
“The curation of this collection focuses on a timeless and versatile men’s wardrobe, allowing them to effortlessly select and layer outfits throughout the day and into the night,” says Nadzril Rosland, Singapore Fashion Council’s Brands Partnership & Operations Manager.
“Encompassing styles such as urban, resort, and prints, as well as accessories like leather bags and travel-inspired sunglasses, shoppers have the opportunity to explore a distinct selection of men’s clothing from a diverse range of local Singaporean brands.”
Here, the team at Design Orchard has handpicked four brands from the collection with great gift ideas that will take any dad’s style game to the next level. And not just on Father’s Day and special occasions, but all year round.
Founded in 2009, menswear label SparrowGreen is inspired by the vibrant street art, fashion and streetwear scenes of Hong Kong and Singapore. Guys who like a bit of grunge and urban cool in their style will appreciate the brand’s vintage-inspired apparel, which is given a modern twist thanks to garment engineering techniques. Each design features an iconic motif, the sparrow, conceptualised by SparrowGreen curator Aaron Ler. It represents loyalty, freedom and self-expression.
#2 Gnome & Bow
For a premium leather bag that will take any man from boardroom to weekend barbecue in style, look no further than Gnome & Bow, founded by local entrepreneur Quanda Ong. This will make a great gift for bibliophiles, with each piece inspired by a literature classic. Characters such as the Hare and Tortoise, and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde slowly reveal themselves in the design details like plot twists. Full personalisation services are also available for a truly one-of-a-kind gift.
#3 Rocket Eyewear
Here’s a gift that’s perfect for the jet-setting father or husband. These lightweight polarised P3 sunglasses from Rocket Eyewear are so chic, you might just want to steal a pair! Brother-and-sister founders En Ming Ong and Ker Shing Ong were inspired to recreate their mum’s favourite classic round frames but injected with a travel-inspired twist. Along with three frame sizes and two fits, there are 40 different colour combinations to choose from. The upshot? You’re sure to find one that will go with any occasion.
For the men who are keen to add an artsy flair to their look, definitely check out Kopou. Artist and founder Kamalakshi Saikia personally designs and creates each piece of clothing using a range of fabric-treating techniques – dyeing, stamping, printing, stitching and more. This ensures that each piece stands uniquely on its own. Saikia describes the brand as embodying a sense of “freedom and play”. In addition to clothing, Kopou also offers a selection of canvas and paper artworks that make great gifts for dad.
