Chinese New Year celebrations don’t have to mean long days in the kitchen! At the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel Singapore, families can mark the season with everything from a Peranakan buffet at Food Capital to reunion dinners, afternoon teas and festive takeaway sets. Whether you’re planning a meal out with friends, tossing Yu Sheng, or keeping celebrations simple at home, it’s an easy way to enjoy Chinese New Year in Singapore without the stress.
Chinese New Year celebrations – dining out
A Peranakan buffet in Singapore to kick off the year
Food Capital is kicking off 2026 with its first-ever Peranakan Buffet in collaboration with executive chef David Toh and iconic Nyonya chef Shirley Tay – and it’s more than just a long row of dishes. The launch event on 6 January includes a kebaya showcase, performances by The Peranakan Voices, and an appearance by Chef Shirley Tay, who’ll unveil her new recipe collection.
Until 8 February, the Peranakan Buffet will take place daily with rotating menus featuring classics like Deep-fried Pomfret with Sambal Chilli, Bakwan Kepiting, Kachang Bendi Chincalok and Goreng Assam Udang. It’s a fab showcase of Chef Shirley’s traditional, age-old Peranakan recipes.
The Peranakan Association Singapore is involved too, which feels especially apt now that the kebaya has been added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Their hope is simple: that diners walk away not just full, but with a little more understanding of the culture behind the dishes.
Chinese New Year reunion dinners and buffets in Singapore
If you’d rather keep things firmly in CNY territory, Food Capital is also running Chinese New Year buffets from 9 February to 3 March, with a mix of traditional dishes, Peranakan highlights and international options. Reunion dinners take place from 16 to 18 February with two seatings each night. There’s an early-bird perk for anyone making full payment by 10 January.
Celebrate with afternoon tea, Peranakan-style
The Lobby Lounge is doing two afternoon tea sets – one Peranakan inspired (until 8 February), the other Chinese New Year-themed (9 February to 3 March). Think laksa bites, kueh pie tee, oxtail stew and the Lobby Lounge’s signature roaming unlimited scone trolley. Add Pryce sparkling tea or champagne if the mood calls for it!
If you’re hosting Chinese New Year celebrations at home…
Celebrating at home but not keen on a long prep day? Food Capital can take the pressure off, with a takeaway Prosperity Yu Sheng in Singapore. The set comes in two variations and includes premium Pen Cai and a Sakura XO sauce specially curated by executive chef David Toh. There are also Chinese New Year hampers – the kind you give to relatives, colleagues or that one friend who insists “no need” but who secretly loves a good hamper! Prices depend on how extravagant you want to go, with ingredients ranging from abalone and fish maw to bird’s nest and champagne.
