Where to get a good blow-dry or hair styling!

Blow-dry, blow-out and hair style options at hairdressers in Singapore

Whether you call it a blow-out or a blow-dry, going to a hair salon in Singapore for a sleek look every now and then or a new hair style is always nice. And it doesn’t have to be for an important meeting or date! If it comes at the end of a long set of highlights and a cut, you can start to get fidgety and perhaps not enjoy it as much; but when it’s just for a quick style and a bit of pampering, it can be very enjoyable! We tried out a couple of hair stylists and hairdressers in Singapore to see how they could transform our hair (and fight the humidity) to get us looking party-ready.

Trimmings Salon & Spa for a wonderful wash & blow-dry!

This was probably the best salon experience I’ve ever had! Located right next to Tanglin Mall, Trimmings has a cosy ambience and a friendly crew, who assured me that I was in the right place for being pampered for 45 minutes.

After a complimentary scalp cleansing, I enjoyed a good hair wash and head massage by Stver, before my head was wrapped with a lavender-scented hot towel – absolutely tranquillising! If that wasn’t enough, I also received a good shoulder and neck massage before Jeion started styling my hair.

I gave Jeion the choice of what to do – so long as she could get rid of the frizz! She’s a perfectionist and definitely knows how to handle Caucasian hair. In the end, she decided on a regular “beach wave” blow-dry. It still amazes me how she managed to twist and turn my hair with a brush without making knots.

The wash and blow-dry is priced at $50 for all lengths. I left the hair salon with my untamed waves a thing of the past; in their place was my dream hair – healthy, bouncy and fresh. Absolutely recommended!

Kelture Aveda Hair Salon in Paragon for a holistic experience

I’ve lost count of the number of hair blow-outs I’ve had, but with fine blonde tresses that tend to get dry at the tips, it’s always good to best to use a hair stylist who understands my hair.

Perry at Kelture Aveda did a hair assessment and recommended the Aveda Nutriplenish shampoo for dehydrated hair. His head massage had just the right level of pressure and the relaxing coconut scent was heavenly. He then used a specialist Japanese tangle brush to ease out the knots painlessly.

The fabulous Fish took over for the blow-dry and styling session. She instantly put me at ease with her bubbly, friendly demeanour. As I was heading out with a girlfriend for dinner post blow-dry, she suggested a glam style with movement and body. She used a curling iron to achieve this look. Her expert tip, which I’m absolutely stealing, is to make sure that the roots are fluffy and the ends are defined.

Founder Kelvin Yap was also around to say hi and take some pics of my gorgeous new hair. I left the salon with a spring in my step and nourished, wavy locks. I’ll definitely be recommending Kelture Aveda to my friends.

Expat Hair Studio for hair styling

expat hairdressers for blow out and hair style

I had a great blow-out after my recent cut and highlights at Expat Hair Studio. I don’t often get ‘smoothed’ so it was nice to have a change. After drying my hair, Kat used the ghd curler to do these casual beachy curls and I loved it. The hair style felt neat but natural, and a bit more modern than the regular blow-dries. If my hair is blow-dried too straight, it just goes really flat and then I end up washing it again! This was perfect.

Sweeny’s Hair & Beauty Corner hairdressers for an affordable blow-dry!

Sweeny’s in Holland Village is literally a Singapore institution. They must know everyone as they’ve been around and in the same place for nearly 40 years. A basic wash and blow-dry costs only $35 – I don’t think they’ve changed their rates for years! Talking with the hair stylists at Sweeny’s is very easy; the main topic last time was my frizzy hair and how I could get rid of it! (I know, the struggle is real in Singapore.)

The hair stylists there are so experienced and must have done a million blow-dries before, so I was finished in no time – perfect!
