Moving companies in Singapore: Who to choose?

If you’re reading this, you’re likely to have used moving companies at least once in your life. Whether it’s from country to country or just within Singapore, finding the right fit can take the pain out of moving. We asked readers about their removal companies, and why they recommend them.

Moving in Singapore, Sir Move
Melissa McMaugh

Melissa McMaugh, Australian

“Sir Move recently performed a local move for us – one that had some additional complexity. We needed to move into a smaller apartment on a temporary basis prior to our expected international departure, so the move involved splitting our belongings into two groups; those items that we would live with, and others that needed to be packed for export and stored in our unit.

The Sir Move team provided an excellent service from the beginning to the end, and they used an organised and methodical approach that was critical to the success of the move. I also have a special custom-made bookshelf unit that I was concerned about during the dismantling, moving and re-installing processes. Our move supervisor was wonderful; he took great care with this item, and even fixed the cupboard door fasteners that had been broken by our previous mover. I was very grateful to him, and I would recommend the team at Sir Move without hesitation.”

Moving in Singapore, Allied Pickfords
Andrea and Alan Barry

Andrea, Canadian, and Alan Barry, Irish

“We were moving from a condo to a landed property, and, as we have a collection of wine, fine wine glasses, artwork and some antique furniture, we needed a company we could have full confidence in. Alan also has a large collection of books that are heavy and a lot of work to move. We chose Allied Pickfords because of a friend’s recommendation, as well as their good reputation.

They provided us with a competitive quote, and we loved the fact they are a full service company, including packing, planning and unpacking. They even organised all the books in our new library and sent handymen who had no problem dismantling and assembling our furniture.

The team unpacked until late into the night, and for those boxes that we wanted to unpack ourselves, they came back later to take away any rubbish. We were most impressed by their talented handyman – possibly the best we have met – who was able to professionally hang all of our artwork, and who also returned to the house to help us hang more pictures once we’d worked out where we wanted them.

The entire move, from start to finish, went incredibly smoothly, and we will definitely use Allied Pickfords again. Moving out of the condo wasn’t easy, but the movers saw the challenges and were able to quickly come up with a plan. Our new home is three stories tall, with no elevator, but even the largest items made it in.

Allied Pickfords took the stress out of moving for us; we cannot recommend them highly enough. We’re both working professionals, but we were able to leave our domestic helper at home to meet up with the team and they were able to get the job done without us being there.”

Moving in Singapore, Raffles Relocation & Mobility
Namita Lal

Namita Lal, Singaporean

“We were moving from one condo to another within Singapore, and specifically we were looking for a company that could take very good care of our prized art collection, our piano, and of course the rest of our home furniture and furnishings. I had seen Raffles Relocation’s advertisements, and they had also come highly recommended by a friend. I also know Sonal from the company personally. These were the deciding factors when it came to choosing them to help us move.

Raffles Relocation is a company of international quality, and they didn’t disappoint during our move. The personnel proved to be very experienced and efficient; they supplied plenty of staff to help during the move, which took four days in total, and it went smoothly and with no issues. I’d happily recommend them to others looking for a moving company.”

Moving in Singapore, Living in Singapore, Asian Tigers
Maxine Candotti

Maxine Candotti, Hong Kong

“We were moving within Singapore, to a location closer to my husband’s office, which is on the West Coast. We had heard about Asian Tigers while we were in Hong Kong, and my husband’s colleague also used them for his move within Singapore, and he recommended them to us.

Before the move, Gary Teo from Asian Tigers came for a site visit and to give us an estimation of cost. He was very helpful and explained every detail about the move, so there wouldn’t be any “surprises”. A quote was promptly provided, and all our questions about logistics were answered.

On moving day, everyone arrived on time, they worked efficiently and carefully, and were all friendly, polite and helpful. Importantly, all the boxes were labelled clearly so that when we unpacked, we knew exactly what was inside each one – this meant we could tidy up the new place in no time.

All the workers knew exactly what they were doing, and they took the initiative to explain the entire moving procedure as they went along, which saved us a lot of time. Everything went through smoothly and in a stress-free manner – definitely no surprises! If we have to move again, we’ll definitely use Asian Tigers.

The move lasted three days, and we really appreciated that the same team members helped us on each of the days; this meant they were familiar with our pieces, which was very helpful during unpacking.”
