Here’s how you can get your rental deposit back

9th March 2023 by Deepa Chevi 3 Min Read

Your lease is coming to an end, which means your place has to be back to its original condition. However, simply sweeping and mopping the floors, washing the bathroom and cleaning the windows may not be enough! Your rental deposit can also be forfeited if the apartment is deemed insufficiently cleaned. Why not spend a few hundred dollars on a deep cleaning service like Sendhelper when moving out instead?

deep cleaning services

Unlike regular cleaning, moving out cleaning is more intensive and detailed. It involves cleaning areas that are not typically cleaned during regular cleaning as well, such as inside cabinets and drawers. As Karen Than, Operations Manager at Sendhelper, points out, landlords and property agents usually check the conditions of appliances, carpets and walls as well. If these standards are not met, tenants may not receive their security deposit back when moving out.

She adds, “Moving out cleaning also requires specialised equipment and supplies that are not used during regular cleaning. For example, a carpet cleaning machine may be needed to clean carpets, or heavy-duty cleaning solutions may be required to remove stubborn stains. Essentially, it requires a higher level of intensity, attention to detail, and specific equipment and supplies than regular cleaning.”

More than a regular clean

Have you been booking regular housekeeping services, or do you have a live-in housekeeper? If so, it would make sense to ask them to help do a deep clean of the house. However, moving out cleaning involves more comprehensive cleaning tasks, requires a higher level of intensity and heavy cleaning equipment than regular cleaning. “Professional cleaners who specialise in deep cleaning services will typically have the expertise, experience and equipment needed to complete the cleaning to a high standard within the required timeframe,” Karen explains.

Karen shares more on commonly missed spots in cleaning, and what to expect when engaging a moving out cleaning service:

What are some often missed spots in regular house cleaning that require professional cleaning prior to moving out?

  • Oven and stove: The oven and stove are often overlooked during regular cleaning, but they can accumulate a lot of grime and grease over time. Professional cleaners use heavy-duty cleaning solutions and specialised tools to remove stubborn buildup.
  • Refrigerator: Like the oven and stove, the refrigerator can also accumulate dirt and food debris over time. Our cleaners remove shelves and drawers to clean them thoroughly, and use special cleaning solutions to remove any lingering odours.
  • Bathroom tiles and grout: Mould and mildew can accumulate on bathroom tiles and grout, especially in areas with high humidity. We use steam cleaners or specialised cleaning solutions are to remove the buildup and restore the tiles and grout to their original condition.
  • Carpets and upholstery: Carpets and upholstery can accumulate dirt and stains over time, especially in high-traffic areas. Moving out cleaning professionals use specialised equipment and cleaning solutions to restore the carpets and upholstery to their original condition.
  • Walls: Walls can accumulate scuffs and marks over time, especially in high-traffic areas. Our moving out cleaning professionals use specialised cleaning solutions to restore the walls to their original condition.

What does Sendhelper’s moving-out cleaning service include?

moving out cleaning sendhelper

Moving out cleaning involves a thorough, comprehensive cleaning of your apartment. Sendhelper’s moving out or deep cleaning service includes vacuuming and mopping of floors, cleaning of all furniture, tabletops and other fittings, cleaning of wardrobe and cabinet interiors and polishing of all mirrors and more. Additional services include mattress steam cleaning, parquet floor polishing, oven and fridge cleaning, kitchen degreasing and steam cleaning, upholstery steam cleaning, as well as disinfection and sanitation of toilets and bathrooms.

What should tenants do before scheduling a cleaning session?

A tenant hiring Sendhelper’s moving out cleaning services can just sit back and relax. We will take care of the cleaning activities. Our professionals will have a standard checklist for cleaning and required equipment and machines to ensure the necessary cleaning standards are met. All you need to do is to be present to show our professionals around your home and explain to them any special requirements or preferences you may have. You can also add these preferences beforehand via the booking form on the Sendhelper app. Unlike regular cleaning, a moving out cleaning takes anything between three to eight hours depending on the condition of the house. So, they should be prepared to wait long hours until the cleaning is complete.

Tenants should also ideally remove all personal belongings from the apartment before cleaning commences. This includes clothes, souvenirs, articles and any other personal items. This makes it easier for the professionals to do their job thoroughly and efficiently.
