Jo Artysan – The Brow Specialist
Artysan Signature Brows eyebrow embroidery
After years of pencilling in my sparse eyebrows and watching them melt off (especially after long, sweaty runs), I decided it was time to do something about it. I’d heard nothing but good things about Jo Artysan, so I was over the moon to finally get my eyebrow embroidery done at their Somerset salon.
The team provided excellent care right from the first enquiry, which immediately put me at ease. Before getting started, they walked me through everything I needed to know about the procedure and the different brow techniques, clearly explaining what would work best for my face, skin type and lifestyle. While their latest nano treatment’s quicker healing time was tempting, I ultimately chose Jo Artysan’s Signature Brows for their super-natural, hair-like finish.
Director Jo explained all the lines she meticulously mapped on my face and listened carefully to what I wanted, which made me feel very confident about the process. It was clear I was in the hands of someone who truly understands facial balance and subtlety.
We then moved to the treatment room for the procedure. It was surprisingly comfortable once the numbing cream took effect. The embroidery took just about 30 minutes, and Jo was incredibly detailed and professional. My skin is rather sensitive and there was some initial redness, but it subsided quickly. The healing process was much easier than I had anticipated.
The outcome is absolutely fantastic. I genuinely can’t recall the last time my brows looked this full and natural. Every morning, I look into the mirror in awe and think: Did I leave my brow makeup on overnight? If you’re hesitant about brow embroidery or worried about pain, unnatural results or putting your face in the wrong hands, don’t be – Jo Artysan is the answer!
Price: Master Artist $1,190; Director $1,790; prices include a complimentary touch-up within two months and aftercare kit.

Zest Clinic
Eyebrow lift using laser and botulinum toxin
As I’ve been ageing, I’ve noticed my eyebrow and eyelid area becoming droopier. My regular botulinum toxin for forehead wrinkles seems to have exacerbated the problem, leaving my brows feeling heavy! Dr Sankeerth Reddy listened to my concerns and suggested botulinum toxin along the brow line with a non-invasive laser eyebrow lifting and upper eyelid rejuvenation procedure.
First, a topical anaesthetic cream was applied to my forehead and allowed to settle in for 30 minutes. Then, Dr Reddy used the laser on my forehead and brow for skin tightening. It was very tolerable, with a warm zapping feeling. The laser delivers safe and gentle low-energy pulses to stimulate collagen. Then he extended the laser treatment on my eyelids to address laxity.
For the second part of the procedure, Dr Reddy used a vein-detecting machine to locate my capillaries to reduce the risk of bruising during the treatment. He then marked injection sites along the brow line. Given the dual action of the laser, a much-reduced amount of botulinum toxin was needed. The whole procedure was done within 25 minutes. As I left the clinic my skin only had a slight redness. And zero downtime!
Two weeks later, I’m amazed to see how much my eyebrows have lifted and my eyelid skin has retracted. Dr Reddy recommended two or three more sessions at three-week intervals. I’m feeling happy and refreshed – and can see more of the eyeshadow on my lids now!
Price: First trial at $498

The Lash Company
3D Volume eyelash extensions in Singapore
My eyes are quite sensitive, and I’ve always been nervous about having anything too close to them, so I was curious about how this experience would go. But the moment I stepped into The Lash Company’s Katong salon, I knew I was in safe hands. The space felt calm yet quietly energetic, with soft music playing and a row of treatment beds occupied by clients lying under lamps, each with a therapist gently focused on their work.
Jamie examined my lashes and explained that they were in good condition and naturally quite upturned – a great starting point. However, this also meant we couldn’t go too long with the extensions, as they might brush against my upper lids. She also noticed a few sparse areas towards the outer corners of my eyes that could use a little extra fullness.
Each synthetic lash is applied in a fan of three. This creates a soft, dimensional effect once added to the natural lashes. In the sparser sections, Jamie strategically placed additional fans to build fullness and create a more even, defined look. While the end result appears full and polished, the lashes themselves feel surprisingly light. The overall effect is flattering and effortless, almost as if you’re wearing a subtle line of eyeliner.
The entire process takes about 90 minutes. Once the micropore tape is gently placed above and below the lash line, all that’s left to do is close your eyes and relax. I definitely dozed off!
Aftercare is refreshingly simple. You just need to keep your lashes dry for the first three hours, then cleanse them daily using a nonoil-based cleanser and a special brush. As your natural lashes grow, the extensions will shed gradually, so a refill every three to four weeks is recommended.
I’m already thinking of this as a regular 90-minute beauty ritual-slash-meditation session – sign me up! Price: $168 (first trial at $138); refills at $98 (within three weeks) & $118 (within four weeks).

SleekBrow
Misty Eyebrow Embroidery for natural yet defined brows
Like many people, I plucked my eyebrows to death in the ’90s and they’ve never been the same since. I have been religiously filling them in every day. So, when I was given the opportunity to try out eyebrow embroidery at SleekBrow, I jumped at the chance.
I was slightly nervous as I’ve never had anything “semi-permanent” done before. I wasn’t exactly sure what I should be asking for. But from the minute I walked through the door, I was reassured by the team’s friendly, knowledgeable and confident approach. It started with a 30-minute consultation, discussing what I knew I didn’t want (since all I really knew was that I wanted it to look quite natural!). The team drew an outline and filled it in with makeup to replicate a finished look that I was happy with. By this stage, I was relaxed and confident to go with anything they suggested.
I was then taken upstairs to the treatment room and had the luxury of lying down and napping for approximately 90 minutes during the treatment. The treatment itself didn’t hurt at all. At the end, it felt slightly sore, but this feeling went very quickly. Throughout the process, I was asked how it felt and whether I was okay.
Taking my first look in the mirror after the eyebrow embroidery treatment, I was a little worried as my brows were a bit darker than how I usually drew them. But I was reassured by the team that this was normal and they would fade and the outlines would blur over a couple of days. I left with an aftercare kit and a smile on my face.
Now, four days later, everything they said is true and I couldn’t be happier with what I believe look like the eyebrows I had before I plucked them away. No more daily filling in for me – I will definitely be going back in six months for a maintenance treatment!
Price: $490 by resident artist; $590 by lead artist; $690 by master artist.
Bonus tip: Besides the signature Misty Eyebrow Embroidery, SleekBrow has launched Airstroke Eyebrow Embroidery, a newer technique that creates ultra-fine strokes that blend with your natural brows for a soft, full-brow effect.

Eyebrow embroidery, eyebrow lifts and eyelash extensions in Singapore – what’s trending?
Eyelashes and eyebrows are having a major moment on centre stage – and they aren’t about to exit left anytime soon. I think the reason lush lashes and full, lifted eyebrows are so attractive is that they signal health. Only a vibrant, well-nutrified body will go to the trouble of maintaining a full, thick head of hair – let alone brows and lashes to frame, protect and beautify the eyes. This is also why eyebrow embroidery, eyebrow lifts and eyelash extensions in Singapore are so popular.
As with most aspects of fashion and beauty, brow trends have cycled and been recycled through the decades. Today’s dramatically full, defined and manicured brows were also popular in the 40s and 50s – think Elizabeth Taylor, Vivienne Leigh. But that hasn’t always been the case. They were thin and rounded in the 20s, understated Twiggy-style in the 1960s. And again, thin and plucked in the 1970s and 1990s.
In fact, the natural brows of some of my friends and family have never really recovered from overzealous plucking in the name of fashion. New tattooing techniques like eyebrow embroidery which includes eyebrow microblading and powder brows have been a godsend for them – and for anyone who has lost brow-hair to thyroid issues or simply getting older. Plus, of course, eyebrow embroidery works wonders for people like me whose real eyebrows are so short, fine and blonde as to be literally invisible. It also gives a natural-looking outcome, so you look like your no-makeup self.

Flutter-worthy eyelash extensions in Singapore
The lash-enhancement trend is difficult to ignore – especially for genetically dispossessed unfortunates such as yours truly. From long, wispy, ingenuous lashes that could almost be natural, to those ultra-dramatic fan-like sweeps, eyelash extensions in Singapore instantly add glamour and an undeniable wow factor. Yes, top-quality extensions are not inexpensive, and maintaining them takes time and commitment. The same goes for achieving stunning eyebrows, though perhaps to a lesser extent.
