Here’s a way to get your children more involved in music and keep them occupied during the summer holidays. Until the end of July 2026, Aureus Academy is running Summer Camps that are not only beginner-friendly but will also teach children new skills. Director of Training and Development BINA JUNG tells us more about their music camps in Singapore. Plus, read on for details of a special discount for bookings made until the end of this month.
Why is a music camp a good choice of holiday activity for my child?
There are various summer camps in Singapore, from sports to art and coding. Music camps stand out for the immersive experience children have as they explore various instruments and engage in collaborative play.
At Aureus Academy’s Summer Camps, children can experiment and take creative risks without the pressure of exams of grades. This gives them the freedom to try new instruments.
My child already has regular music lessons. How will a music camp support these lessons?
Music lessons involve learning a single musical instrument for a short period of time. Over the duration of a music camp, children can discover and experiment with as many instruments as they like.
For those already learning music, music camps are a chance to broaden their skills by trying different instruments, while also improving on their primary instrument. As children explore instruments and musical styles, this potentially fosters an open mindset, encouraging them to embrace learning new skills in other areas.
What does a day at the Aureus Academy music camp look like?
Each camp runs for five days, from 9am to 2pm daily. Each day, children will learn a new instrument – piano, drums, violin, guitar and vocal. They’ll learn up to five songs through our own adventure book, using backing tracks across different genres played by the London Symphony Orchestra (the orchestra behind the soundtracks of Star Wars and Harry Potter movies).
Two of the key camp activities that students will engage in are composition and improvisation.
At the end of each day, the students will perform a song on their new instrument in a group with their new friends. They’ll also be able to unlock exclusive rewards and earn a Certificate of Achievement for learning the instrument.
We provide lunch and a snack for camp participants during the day.
Along with learning how to play new musical instruments, what are some of the other benefits of a music camp?
Developing and enhancing life skills
Music camps help young musicians learn how to think on their feet to create a new tune. Improvisation helps children develop problem solving skills such creative thinking, discipline and adaptability.
Learning emotional expression and management
Music camps are a safe space for children to express their feelings as they play on musical instruments. This can be therapeutic and help nurture their emotional wellbeing. As they prepare for their musical performances with their friends, they develop emotional sensitivity and empathy to form deeper connections.
Developing social skills as they make new friends
Children from diverse backgrounds attend music camps, which gives them a unique chance to work together with their peers. This is rarely available in regular music classes where the child is usually learning alone with the teacher.
Cultivating independence
When children select the instrument they’ll play for their solo performance, it’s an independent decision that boosts their self-esteem and trust in their abilities. This foundation is essential for them to develop into resilient and adaptable individuals.
