I had the most amazing hair wash and head massage at the Yann Beyrie Salon in Wisma Atria last week – and I didn’t want it to end. But that’s not really the main theme of this article! Yann himself has launched a range of hair products (made in his home country of France) that he’s been working on for a while. They’re called Plumeria – the scientific name of the frangipani; I’ve since bought some, and I’m pretty excited about them.
Great for curls
Having curly hair like mine is tricky for haircuts and also for hair care (and curl control) – not just in Singapore but everywhere. I’m sure I’ve tried every product in existence over the last 40 years! Many make the curls go really stiff, and some are too heavy so the hair goes flat on top; others don’t seem to do much at all to fight the frizz.
The new thing in hair care over the past few years is sulphate free shampoo and conditioners. I’ve found a couple that have been doing an okay job. But Yann Beyrie’s new Plumeria range seems to excel on a few levels. He hasn’t created a curl control yet, but by just using the sulphate free conditioner and serum I’ve noticed a huge difference. The curls stay together and don’t frizz, the height on top remains, and there’s an overall sheen to it that I haven’t seen in a long time!
All the products are sulphate free, and have no silicones, parabens or phthalates; they’re also cruelty-free with very high percentages of natural-origin content – 86, 88.2 and 99.4 percent respectively in the shampoo, conditioner and hair serum. And the scent is sensational!
Heavenly hair wash
At the salon, my stylist first led me to their VIP room (above), where she talked me through my hair issues. She then took me off for the amazing hair wash using the new products that include a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner and I was sold! She really knew how to work with curly hair, telling me at what stage to comb it, and how to dry it naturally. I’ve tried different options including not combing it at all, so this was really interesting, and following her recommendations is working.
I had previously had two to three inches cut off that were wispy thin because the hair was so broken. The hair serum helps protect the hair from UV and other elements, so I am hoping this new growth will be stronger. The sulphate free conditioner also helps to protect. It’s a bit more expensive than supermarket conditioners, but you only need a small amount each time, so it should be cost-effective.
What is exciting, too, is that the hair products are enabling me to wear my hair down – I usually have to “scrawp” it up! The curls stay put, even without me using an extra curl cream.
The main plusses, then, apart from the sulphate-free ingredients, are that it prevents hair damage, strengthens and thickens hair, and improves lustre and sheen. The perfume is actually created and manufactured in Grasse – the very centre of the French perfume industry – so it’s no wonder it smells so good!
