Summer’s here, and it’s a long-awaited break that calls for doing loads of fun stuff with the kids! The good news is that, from June to August, Singapore will see some much-anticipated and interesting shows both on screen and on the stage. Here are just a few of the highlights.
IN CINEMAS
Despicable Me 3
Gru’s adventure continues, and this time his encounters involve a new villain, Balthazar Bratt, and plenty of sibling rivalry from twin brother Dru.

Transformers: The Last Knight
A direct sequel to 2014’s Transformers: Age of Extinction, this next film sees a war commencing between the human race and the Transformers.
When: 22 June
Spider-Man Homecoming
Another upcoming superhero film, this one is the second reboot of the Spider-Man film franchise. Peter Parker is trying to balance ordinary high school life with fighting crime as his alter ego Spider-Man, when a new threat, the Vulture, emerges.
When: 6 July
Cars 3
The third film in the Cars franchise follows a determined Lightning McQueen who is in training for a second chance to race after suffering a terrible crash.

ON STAGE
Peter & Blue’s Birthday Party
This performance tells the story of Peter, his dog Blue and his cat Calico, embarking on another magical adventure, and ending with a blast at a huge birthday celebration. After each show, kids will get the chance to meet with the dancers.

Hansel and Gretel
Be wowed by the Orchestra of the Music Makers and an international and local cast of singers as they bring you the classic story of Hansel and Gretel, which young and old will both enjoy, in the form of a semi-staged concert performance.

MOB-PROMS: Land of Hope & Glory
This concert combines a talented group of young musicians and professional artistes, who take you through a celebratory concert similar to the finale of the annual BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.

Pluck and the Magical Banyan Tree – Harp Musical
Go on an adventure with Pluck, the fairy protector of music, to find out why people are forgetting how to make music in the Harp Kingdom of Enchantia.

Pinocchio: A Whale of a Tale!
Find out what mischief Pinocchio gets up to which led him to be swallowed by a whale and how the quick witted wooden puppet, who wants to be a boy, learns from his mistakes with the help of his little friends at this musical puppet show.

Cirque Du Soleil Kooza
Kooza pays tribute to Cirque Du Soleil’s roots by combining thrilling, heart-stopping acrobatic performance with the art of clowning.

Disney in Concert: A Dream is a Wish
Watch in joy as your favourite Disney stories, such as The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Frozen, Aladdin and more, come to life, in the production that combines live singing, footage and orchestral music.

When: 14 and 15 July
The Curious Adventures of Pinocchio
The world-famous puppet story will be retold in a unique way in this production, with characters such as crickets, cats and foxes leaping off the pages and onto the stage, and actor and puppeteer Patrick Lynch pulling the strings to bring you the true story of Pinocchio.

Voices of the Amazon
Presented with live music, song and dance on stage, fusing ballet, contemporary and capoeira, this unique production follows the story of Beleza, a water spirit from the Amazon river, whose search to cure her dying sister takes her on a journey deep into the forest.

When: 28 and 29 July
Koko the Great
This adventure story, part of the Esplanade’s PLAYtime! 2017 theatre series, follows Koko the Great in a kampong that’s alive with colours, animal puppets, sing-a-longs, dance-a-longs and other surprises. Note: a sensory-friendly version of the production will be staged on 23 and 26 August.
