Treatments like HIFU, Ultherapy and Thermage are no strangers to us skincare aficionados in Singapore, especially if you’re a fan of non-surgical ways (as little pain as possible, please!) to help tighten skin, boost collagen and kick signs of ageing to the curb. One treatment you may not have heard of though is Sofwave – and it’s one that’s worth knowing about!
This relatively new FDA-approved ultrasound technology has been making waves (no pun intended) across the beauty world. And, you can find it at Singapore’s Mizu Aesthetic Clinic, centrally located in ION Orchard. This non-invasive approach to boosting collagen in Singapore – a natural protein that sadly begins to deplete after the age of 20 – promises to minimise fine lines and wrinkles after just one session. Read on to find out why people are loving it – and a review from one of us at EL!
A breakthrough device and technology for boosting collagen in Singapore
How exactly does it work? One of the newest ultrasound devices in the industry, Sofwave uses proprietary high-intensity ultrasound beams to tighten lax skin while improving fine lines and wrinkles. It works by creating micro-injuries in the mid-dermis layer. This prompts the skin to repair itself and boost collagen in this layer that’s the most important for skin tightening.
What makes this device unique is the built-in cooling mechanism in the handpiece that keeps the skin from getting burnt or damaged. This is what allows Sofwave to output energy and temperature much higher and stronger than other devices.
How Sofwave compares to other ultrasound treatments
The Mizu team explains that most ultrasound treatments like HIFU and Ultherapy provide depth targeting at 1.5mm 3.0mm and 4.5mm. Meanwhile, Sofwave targets only a single depth the 1.5mm. This actually allows the device to deliver much higher and more focused energy to this outer layer of the skin. During the treatment, the temperature hits around 60 to 70 degrees Celsius in your skin’s mid-dermis layer. This is compared to HIFU and Ultherapy’s 42 to 44 degrees Celsius.
This helps to deliver greater results in skin firming and tightening, as well as collagen stimulation. That’s why the treatment is favoured by those who wish to tighten loose skin, reduce fine lines and rejuvenate overall appearance (as opposed to the more apparent facelift effect that HIFU and Ultherapy offer).
How Sofwave compares to other radiofrequency treatments
Another treatment that Sofwave often draws comparisons to is Thermage, a non-invasive radiofrequency therapy. While each has its pros, the Mizu team explains that Sofwave is a more tolerable treatment due to its smaller energy spots. Its 1.5mm depth also works particularly well on lines on areas with little soft tissue, such as the forehead. Another plus? Compared to the likes of Thermage, the number of shots with Sofwave can be customisable to target different areas and treatments.
Non-invasive with lasting results
Sofwave is able to treat wrinkles, fine lines, skin laxity and more on a multitude of areas on the body. It works especially well on the face and neck. The best part? While the skin may be slightly pink and sore, you can expect minimal pain or discomfort and no downtime after the treatment. You will see gradual improvements to your skin after only one treatment, with optimal results seen around the three-month mark. A maintenance session is recommended once every year.
Our review on this collagen-boosting treatment in Singapore
Recently, Karin Galley headed to Mizu Aesthetic Clinic to give the Sofwave treatment a try. Here’s what she thought:
As the years have gone by, I’ve become more aware of how aging can affect our skin. Especially around my jowls where it tends to sag a bit. I take my skincare seriously, and my beauty cabinet is loaded with all sorts of serums and creams. While these products have done a decent job, I’ve also started looking into non-invasive clinic treatments to give my skin an extra boost.
I had heard about high-frequency ultrasound treatments and their magic, but I’m not great with pain, to be honest. What drew me to Sofwave was that it promised to be more comfortable compared to other treatments, but just as effective.
Before the procedure, a numbing cream was applied all over my face and left to sit for about 45 minutes. I was also offered the option of an additional oral painkiller which I gladly accepted.
As the doctor began using the Sofwave device on my chin, I initially felt nothing – a breeze, really. But after a few moments, there was a brief but sharp tingling sensation that seemed to originate deep within my skin. I braved a total of 280 passes – 140 on each side of my face. The entire process took about an hour. Some spots, especially those near my ears, were a tad more sensitive, but it was totally manageable. What made it even better was the pleasant chat I had with the doctor throughout, which brilliantly distracted me from any discomfort.
The cherry on top was that there was zero downtime. I was free to jump right back into my normal routine. Though my skin already felt firmer and smoother immediately after the treatment, it’s crucial to remember that Sofwave isn’t a quick-fix solution. The true magic is expected to happen around two to three months down the road as the collagen-boosting effects gradually kick in.
Right now, I am super happy that I had the courage to go for this treatment. If you spot me with a renewed radiance in the coming months as the collagen works its wonders, you’ll know the secret behind my newfound glow.
